My wife and I ate lunch here for the first time and we loved it! I conquered "The Stack", which is a corned beef special with pastrami, but rather than on bread, it's served open face on top of two potato latkes. This thing was out of control good! The wife enjoyed her bacon chicken avocado salad very much. You'll notice that the prices are moderate to high. However, you are paying for gigantic portions of freshly made everything! Bonnie was the most pleasant, genuine server I've encountered in a long, long time. She ran up to me as I was paying to give me my sunglasses that I'd left on the table. Thanks again, Bonnie!! So, Internet...Ben and Irv's is an A+ and they'll be seeing us again and again and again!

I have been in Ben & Irv's a couple of times, and its a pretty good deli type place. Normally when I got eggs when I was there, which were fairly decent. Eggs are pretty hard to screw up, but they didn't seem to have anything special to them. The bagel I got with it didn't taste too fresh either. If I want to go to a place to get eggs, I will just stick to a diner instead.

I've taken my grandmother here for breakfast every time I'm in town. We get a nice Jewish plate of smoked fish, with bagels and all the accouterments. Arlene has been our server for years and she's a hoot! I have never eaten lunch here but I can tell you the kippered salmon and the belly lox are the best I have ever had. Their fish comes from Acme in Brooklyn and it's fresh and tasty.

Ben and Irv's is the place to go if you're looking for standard but well-prepared and delicious deli fare. It tends to get crowded during the lunch and dinner hours, but they do have a take-out options and a deli counter up front featuring deli meats, cheeses, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, and other various selections. Have only been to B&I's for breakfast, but we love it and make it a regular spot on weekends. Go early, as there is usually wait if you get their after 10:00 a.m. or so. Atmosphere is very diner-like, as is the service, but all in all, it's dependable, Good coffee, and love the "big breakfast" specials they do weekdays and weekends. This is a great location to have a restaurant inside a strip mall. Desided to try this place for the first time, for breakfast. When you walk in to the right you have the bakery and other kind of different lunch meats and foods you can get to go. And keep walking down and to the left you will see the dinning area to sit at. When arriving to sit down. It's not hard to notice that the lighting is as bright as it could be. So don't worry you will be enjoying your food with plenty of light around you. The menu portion is huge for breakfast and took me a little bit to desided on what I was getting. I got my usual the 2 eggs with meat. And coffee. The eggs, home fries and big peice of scrapple was good and so was coffee. And they give you toast with it and put butter and jelly on side. So great to have 2 options on if you want eaither one. The service was great. Waitress was so nice back at the table every 5 min. Asking how everything Was and if I need refill. Good waitressing is always a great thing that early in the morning. I look forward to coming back hear again.

When it comes to breakfast and lunch there's no better. I often have breakfast at Ben and Irv's in the winter due to my work schedule and I am never disappointed. The hostess and waitstaff are exceptionally pleasant and look for every opportunity to meet your needs. Their portion sizes are tremendous for the price. And you can order things to go while you're eating so that you have delicious food throughout the week. Their soups are outstanding. They also make it a fabulous Reuben sandwich. They seem to always have the freshest meats and breads which makes the experience that much more pleasurable. Bravo I say bravo.

After our monthly JRA deliveries, we customarily brunch at B&I. Although a little pricier than some of the other nearby breakfast places, one gets value in terms of the quality of the food, relative deliciousness of the coffee, general cleanliness of the place and the waitstaff who call you "hon." We almost always start on the specials page, which has a couple of family favs: The nova and bagel plate and the Biggee, which is a patron's own personal smorgasbord of eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast or bagel and home fries. It truly is enough for two, although the menfolk have been known to clean their plates. The Mister is also a fan of B&I's omelets but not thrilled with the scrapple (wrong brand and not cooked quite right). B&I also is a solid destination for a quick bite at dinner. Its weekday dinner specials compare favorably in price and amenities to diner offerings. In our rotation are the chopped salad, 1/2 chicken, and corned beef sandwich. My favorite part of a B&I dinner, however, is the complementary pickle bowl. The half-sours are a personal fav. The friendly, energetic vibe at B&I also is invigorating. B&I has a loyal clientele whose paths regularly cross at this suburban Grand Central Station. We love seeing and hearing the cross-restaurant greetings. I bought a Groupon for this place as I saw it had some great reviews and I'm always up for a great Jewish deli! As we went to Ben and Irv's, I experienced my typical dilemma - smoked fish or smoked meat. So I just couldn't help myself, and did both. I ordered a fish platter with whitefish salad and baked salmon (kippered salmon). It was fantastic. Like just as good as Brent's (Brent's is the best deli in L.A.). Whitefish not too fishy, just the right amount of fishy. Baked salmon perfectly smoked and soft. The cream cheese was standard which should have been whipped, but still good. The platter also had a nice amount of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers and looked really nice (I took a picture). Also ordered iced coffee which was surprisingly delicious. Iced coffee isn't usually something that I notice unless it is really good or really bad, but this iced coffee was reeeeally good. Service was very good and did not get the typical hassle when using Groupons or other coupons/vouchers and other restaurants. I was stuffed after that fish platter, so I strolled to the deli counter and got a few things to try later at home. I picked up some corned beef, whitefish salad (it was terrific), some excellent day old rye bread, and tuna salad. It was not cheap (except for the bread), but it was well worth it. This will be my go to deli from now on and looking forward to bringing guests here when they come to visit.

This was my second time coming to Ben & Irv's, my girlfriend grandparents are jewish and they took her here as a little girl and it brings back fond memories for her. So she suggested we go and get lunch. I have to say this is probably one of my favorite Jewish Delis, the food is authentic and is made just the way I would expected it to be, great! I orderd the Matzah Ball soup with a HUGE matzah ball in the middle, it was great! Also for an app my girlfriend and I shared a full order of Potato Pancakes, served wit ha side of sour cream and apple sauce, and wow they were big and we both wanted seconds. For lunch I ordered the Grilled Chicken Avocado Wrap, it was very delicious and I would also recommend to give it a try. They serve pickles to each table to munch on while you wait for your food, they're authentic Jewsh pickles which were amazing, if you love pickles! Will always keep Ben & Irv's on my list as one of my favorite Jewish Delis.

I've been going to Ben & Irv's for years and the place hasn't changed at all. This place is a good Jewish deli, with a good size menu and good food. Breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, Ben & Irv's serves up a good Jewish meal. FOOD A typical deli, lots of choices and the quality is pretty good. Breakfast has a good selection with good portion sizes and good quality. Lunch is also a pretty good deal. SERVICE Usually the service is pretty on point at Ben & Irv's. The waitresses are usually older, but friendly and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. ATMOSPHERE They've updated the place over the years, but it still has the same feel to it. Just a big room with a ton of booths, some tables. Nothing fancy about it, just trying to cram as many seating options into an area as possible. PRICE The pricing is reasonable. For breakfast or lunch it is a good deal, but dinner is a little bit on the pricer side for a deli. I'll keep coming back here because it's a good location and it's comfort food. Nothing quite like biting into a pastrami sandwich and having the wonderful juices run down my arm into my sweater. The BEST pastrami in town. Though I was mildly interested in my wife's Reuben which was open faced, grilled to perfection w just the right amount of cheese. All of this goodness was preceded by a classic bowl of matzoh ball w just enough to split 4 ways. I absolutely love Ben and Irvs! It's a great Jewish deli (but not Kosher/Kosher style- keep in mind) There are so many different options for food. An extensive kids menu, options for people watching what they eat (and lots of options for people who aren't), and an amazing breakfast menu. The portions are quite large. Try the matzoball soup or mushroom barley soup for an appetizer. Service is hit or miss as far as friendliness goes, but I've never had to wait a while for my food. Besides, you get free pickles to snack on while you wait! Yes, you'll have to wait if you come on a weekend, especially for breakfast/brunch. The place isn't huge, and it's very popular.

Food is good and fresh. The waitress we had on this visit was super. I asked for something not on the menu and she was super about it. She made sure the cook knew exactly what I wanted and then made sure after I got my sandwich that it was what I wanted. Super great service. The prices are a bit high, but in fairness to that, it's worth it. You get a lot and the food is fresh. Their salads, deli meats, and baked items are what I have had the most of.

As it has been mentioned before, this is your classic deli joint. It is extremely popular although I'd have to say it seems slightly over rated (from my humble opinion). The decor is average. It's unique if anything. But it's nothing beautiful and it's cramped for the amount of bodies they move through. There is quite a lot of older people who were there, both in terms of patrons and employees. There's nothing wrong with that, but it just goes to show who the demographic seems to be geared towards. The menu is absolutely enormous. This is either good or bad. It's not easy to read completely and it's a bit hard to completely grasp everything. We had a great pastrami sandwich. I personally didn't find the matzo ball soup to be anything special. Generally, this is a nice place to go for deli food. The decor is average. The service is fair.

One of the best deli/diners around. The place is always crowded but the service never suffers. The matzoh ball soup is excellent. Fountain sodas are great too -- not as great as a McDonald's fountain soda but not far behind. The hot open face turkey sandwich is amazing! I had the Corned Beef Special recently and was very disappointed. Usually you get the best sandwiches from a deli. It had a lot of mayonnaise and the Russian dressing was almost invisible. Also, had the chicken noodle soup, again disappointment. No chicken in the soup, only celery, carrots and noodles. Don't think I will be going there again!

Awesomeness! Friendly staff and Fantastic food. The best Extra Lean Corned Beef Special on seedless rye ever and I sincerely mean EVER!!! No place comes even close to the quality and consistency. It's sizeable, lean, and moist due to the help of the 1000 island dressing. To enjoy bite after bite without chewing on any grizzle edged fat is a great thing. For breakfast the nova lox (not as salty as regular lox) on an untoasted plain bagel was terrific. The sandwich came with onion, cucumber, cream cheese, and lettuce. I chose to stack my lox ontop of kippered salmon (paid extra) embedded it in my cream cheese & capped with a crisp cucumber slice on top. An added plus was the Wild Cherry Pepsi available on tap. The only disappointment (and an area to certainly approve upon) were the pickles given at the table. At first sight they look crisp and hydrated but wait....they dehydrate quickly and are often on the softer side. A big fail! If they would build a pickle bar it would be a slam dunking success! (fresh pickles please) Oh...for wishful thinking. Overall though it's a great place to eat and a 5 star recommend!

Here at the moment and very upset with this place. No matter what my husband and I do we are always told we didnt order it right. I'm sorry but appetizers are just that if I want what I ordered with my meal I would say so. I had just gotten my soup and my meal was right behind, the waitress putting my soup on my table. Idk but I really am not going to eat a cold meal or let you keep my meal hot for me when theres cold coleslaw on it. Wake up you have done nothing but gone down hill in the ten years I have lived in HV. I actually prefer wasting gas and time driving to Harold's New York Style Deli in NJ at least I know my meal is right each and every time. Shame that I had to go this far and write a review since management and owners don't care. Also be careful they allow all workers to sit in dining area on break..not a very pretty site nor do I wish to sit or eat near the workers. This is for the fact that I was a waitress for 15 years and do believe in proper etiquette in a restaurant of any sort. I do not wish to see the workers chit chatting away instead of doing their jobs. For my husband to ask for a refill and wait 15 minutes for one is insane. Their was barely any customers so whats the problem. People are seeing now that tips are not given well this is why I won't give 20 percent, the server doesn't deserve it.

I've been on a Jewish deli kick lately, and I'd been hearing about B&I's for the longest time from family, so I decided to make the trip out here for lunch. It was a very good experience all around. First off, the space was really not what I was expecting. It looked a lot like a standard diner, but this place was packed. I think we got one of the last tables, and it was like 2pm on a Saturday! The recommendation that I got from my sister in law was to try the matzo ball soup at all costs, so I did. I have to say it was exceptional. It really rivals my fav matzo ball soup, which is at Pumpernick's. Then I went with a pastrami sandwich, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I probably should have gotten something on it (I just got pastrami on rye), but even in its most austere form, it was a great sandwich. The service was friendly and relaxed, and he did a great job of keeping our glasses full. Definitely recommend.

born and raised in the area. sadly, deli in philly has lost a lot of ground to new york... and even new jersey if you count harold's. sandwiches are small and made to look big by thinly slicing the meat. the quality of the "homemade" meats is mediocre... the best thing here is the mushroom barley soup. i guess compared to steve stein's famous deli, the competition is on par with being overpriced for quality and quantity. someone needs to raise the ladder because both places are complacent.

There used to be some competition for the Jewish deli biz in Jenkintown but tempus fugit. There still are a few places in Northeast yelp.com/search?find_des… but in the burbs it's Ben and Irv's. It's a modern deli with a case full of high cal high taste stuff they cut to order, loads of great baked goods and a huge deli/diner menu that features ads that give it the look of a magazine - not sure how I feel about that but hey the place makes up for it. Ask for seltzer and you don't have to tell them how to get it from the post mix machine, a mighty plethora of culinary choices from the semi healthy to the very bad. Recently we had breakfast here - my western omelet was fine nothing great nothing awful, i subbed fruit for the home fries for a buck and I declined the bagel for some nice rye toast. My wife had pancakes with a side of turkey bacon - the bacon was great, however the pancakes - at perhaps 1.30 on a Saturday after the breakfast chef may have gone home - were Jewish deli style - more is better but not this time - just a bit too thick on the pancakes...also kraft tubs of syrup rather then real maple syrup but just 5ish bucks for the plate of 3. Service is fine, and the room is very comfortable and clean. It's a good diner thats not Michel's with authentic Jewish flavor, and individually owned style.

I've eaten at deli's for many years coast to coast. This is one of the finest I've found. Ben & Irv's is the go-to spot in Huntington Valley, PA for all the comfort foods you've been missing. The menu is extensive, and the traditional Jewish-style fare is presented with the feeling of "Bubbie" inspiring (and perhaps supervising) the kitchen. My trio stopped in for lunch today and enjoyed a wonderful fish brunch platter which included lox (sliced right), whitefish salad (ordered chunky style, and sooo good), kippered salmon (pink and moist), chopped herring (a favorite of mine) and assorted fresh cut veggies. It was served with a choice of fresh bagels, cream cheese, and bottomless cups of freshly brewed coffee. Needing a sweet touch at the end (to neutralize the onions, of course), we enjoyed a large shared serving of Jewish apple cake. More than just dessert, this was a delightful confection of sliced apples, cinnamon and all the right other stuff to make it special. Yes Bubbie, this was more than just a meal. It was an enjoyed memory echoed from my youth. By the way, last week I attended a dinner for 150 catered by Ben & Irv's at a residential community clubhouse nearby. It was amazing. The owner/operator, Lenny Bromberg (who is onsite at most times) and his staff attended to every detail of this "New York, NY" theme party. The food was in abundance throughout the evening, presented handsomely, and non-stop in variety and quality.

There are way too many bad things to say about this place, too many! We went for dinner tonight, as expected the placed as packed but the queue moved fairly well. The waitress (Lexi) was totally ignorant to our party for four. There was some guy walking around asking customers how everything was. Surprise, surprise he never came to us. Probably afraid we would tell him the truth. The stuffed cabbage was tough because it was not cooked enough. The turkey ruben was dry. Gee, could you spare a little Russian dressing?! We all ordered water. It was served to us in juice cups. What is the a reason you cannot give us adult-sized cups? Oh, I heard Lexi nicely apologize to the people behind us for the small cups and explain there were no big cups. She never bothered to explain or apologize to us, yet the people across from us received big cups! We had to ask for pickles. The people next to us had pickles. Pickles are given to customers as soon as they are seated. However, we got a basket of bread, but no bread plates! Then Lexi mysteriously appeared with two boxes at the end of our meal. She was astute enough to know we were going to need only two boxes (four people in our party, but only two boxes needed). She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert, just showed up with the boxes! Oh, and the check! There was a gnat flying around our food while we were eating. If that's not a sign of a clean establishment (sarcasm!) I don't know what is!

Definitely one of the premier Jewish deli's in PA and not too far from the Philly area. These guys have been in business a long time and had the whole place renovated within the past 5-10 years, the best part is that it really makes a difference. So many old-school Jewish deli's (and old restaurants in general) have gone down by the way-side and think they can survive on the business of their 'regulars' without putting extra money into the future of the business. Ben & Irv's gets it, and knows that while their primary customer base is increasing in age, they still haev to produce a quality product and environment to keep them coming and bring in the younger generations as well. That being said, the set-up is really nice with the deli being completely separated from the restaurant with wall so that the patrons of each section aren't on top of one another. The deli case was one of the bigger one's I've seen with an entire section dedicated to meats, one for cheeses, and the last for smoked fish products from NY's Acme Smoked Fish (the best lox in the country, I love the deli's that carry their product AND Philly cream cheese, they make such a good couple). I wasn't starving but I definitely needed a decent-sized breakfast to get me through the day. They have a ton of breakfast options and everyday they do a different omelette-of-the-day with home fries, a bagel/toast and a cup of coffee for $7.95. Pretty good deal to me so I went with the Western Omelette and a bagel. Everything came out in about 5-8 minutes and tasted great. The home fries were particularly good and tasted as if they were made fresh from potatoes in the kitchen. (I doubt they were but wherever they order them from, they were of superior quality in the homefries category). Can't wait to try this place out for lunch and I know I'll get the opportunity as I am in the area from time to time.

This place is NIRVANA!!!!!! Not a Kosher deli, but outta sight Jewish style deli. The food is always fresh and plentiful, so much so that a take home container is pretty much a requirement. Never had a stale piece of rye, or bagel. Never had vegetables that were questionable. All if it looks fresh and appealing. My wife and I went for breakfast on Easter Sunday, also around the time of Passover, and it was quite crowded. They accommodated us easily. And the food was well worth the 30 minute drive. I would love to rent a room there so I could be closer. I think I can safely say that this is my most favorite restaurant this side of the the Atlantic Ocean. The servers are just great (if you read my reviews, I am seriously into great service) and I can't say enough good things about them. If I could eat 3 meals a day here, I would.

Sandwich size was decent, but quality was not equivalent to the price. Service was average. Our waitress scored a 33%...she got 1 of 3 dishes correct. Which happens....but since she took our order by memory....that I find annoying. Also, I'm a little over 40 yrs old...and I was by far the youngest patron there. (By a good 15 + years). Overall, been there so many times, I would go again.

New York has Katz, Boca has Too Jay's and Philly has Ben & Irv's Deli. It's been a staple in the community for over 60 years. Anytime I'm craving a good pastrami on rye or just a diner style grilled cheese this is the place. There is so much to say about B&I, yet so little needs to. Just know if this place has lasted 60+ years and still has come out on top, there is a reason for it. If you're every in the Huntington Valley area and want to experience one of the finer deli's in the northeast region of the United States, look no further than the classic Ben & Irvs.

Been here a couples times now and originally I was looking for a good kosher deli for a pastrami sandwich. Pastrami is really really good. The place is packed all the time, that's my only complaint. I've had egg Benedict there twice which is also very good.

Needed a pastrami fix, so I went to Ben and Irvs. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered their NY Pastrami, their lean in house made pastrami. Very salty, no pepper on the outside. Defining flavors were mace, all spice. The portion was warm, generous without being obscene like Carnegie Deli in NYC. The rye bread (no seeds) was sub par and fell apart with the sandwich. Accompanying the sandwich was a bowl of pickles (one tomato, on dill, one half dill and one phallic shaped thing that was paler than my own Wasp skin. Chips were wise potato chips in a bag. All this for 10 dollars. Next.

This place is pretty decent. It is a Jewish Style Deli, but not kosher. The food is good and the portions are huge. The menu is insanely large and difficult to navigate. The service is adequate, but goes down hill as more customers fill the seats. The place is clean, and the decor is average. I would say this place is very average.

First, be prepared if going at a traditional meal time for a crazy crowd!! This restaurant is very popular in the area and while the wait wasn't too bad, the line was out the door on a Saturday afternoon. The menu here is extensive and I love that they have 5 or 6 soups to choose from (I'm a soup junky). I had a simple grilled cheese, and it was pretty darn cheesy. My husband had a rueben and he was very pleased with it. Overall a great place to stop in for a lunch - and probably a dinner as well.

You can't get real food Jewish food anywhere else. Not in the Philly area. My husband had matzoh ball soup with noodles. Very tasty. Always. Kind of a cross between a diner and Jewish deli, the food and staff fail to disappoint. My last gastronomic foray here had me starting off with a potato knish. I could smell the onions on this thing 10 feet away but it was delicious. I then moved onto the open faced pastrami on rye with melted swiss, cole slaw and russian dressing. I have no idea how they got the pastrami so thin. It was to die for. This was possibly the best sandwich I've had in 2010. On one of my prior visits, I ordered the Jewish hoagie. There must have been about five pounds of cold cuts packed into this sucker but damn was it good. Don't miss the pastries on the way out. Their Jewish apple cake is a thing of beauty.

Brought my 6 month old daughter here not too long ago... had the matza ball soup, potato pancakes, and a corned beef special (basically a reuben) sandwich. I liked it all and so did she! She loved the soup and the applesauce from the potato pancakes. I was also a fan of all the food. The sandwich was big and packed with meat (although I could've enjoyed a little more sauce and slaw), the potato pancakes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the matza ball soup was tasty. The waiter was also very friendly and very chatty (perhaps a little too much so!) The selection is also gigantic as another reviewer mentioned. My only gripes are that it took forever to pay at the single register, and that as good as the food was, it was somewhat unremarkable. However, that does not stop Ben and Irvs from getting my recommendation!

Well in town for a few days and this was the start to eating my way around the area. I have to say...I wish more places were like this! The waitresses were most helpful. I ordered a fruit cup to begin and got a "bowl" ! and being from California I was delighted as it was so fresh and tasty. The bagel and sides were a perfect new experience, to real "deli"! Always reliable Jewish deli. They have a huge menu - ranging from breakfast foods to deli to hot sandwiches and entrees to desserts and bakes goods. Definitely a great place for breakfasts and early bird dinners, though it can get really crowded and sometimes there is a long line. They have delicious low fat muffins, available at the deli counter, that are quite pricey, but worth it in my opinion. I always grab a few on my way out.

It used to be better in the past. Now it is losing its luster and the lines are too long (I guess maybe I am overlooking something that made this place popular?). The tables too closed together, service people act frantic and bumps into you while you are sipping your coffee... I ordered corn beef sandwich and I have tasted better ones elsewhere. Too much fat in it as I asked for lean ones. I guess they do not really care for your specific instructions on how you want your food to be made. I had asked in a very clear way that I want LEAN corn beef and cut away the fat. Nope... they served me fatty side of corn beef.... Left with a spilled coffee on my shirt and upset stomach.... I actually liked it better before they remodeled; before, it had a diner charm, now it merely looks like it's trying to be classier than it is. The waitresses, though, haven't changed. The same cigarette-roughened voice greets you today that greeted you 10 years ago. It's kind of nice; they are efficient. I've never really gotten food other than omelettes here; it seems a bit overpriced from what I can see, but for solid, unmemorable feta cheese omeletets and hash browns in the suburbs that will get you seated quickly even with long lines, Ben & Irv's can't be beat. They also have the nostalgia factor going on. Ah, Ben & Irv's.

This place is NIRVANA!!!!!! Not a Kosher deli, but outta sight Jewish style deli. The food is always fresh and plentiful, so much so that a take home container is pretty much a requirement. Never had a stale piece of rye, or bagel. Never had vegetables that were questionable. All if it looks fresh and appealing. My wife and I went for breakfast on Easter Sunday, also around the time of Passover, and it was quite crowded. They accommodated us easily. And the food was well worth the 30 minute drive. I would love to rent a room there so I could be closer. I think I can safely say that this is my most favorite restaurant this side of the the Atlantic Ocean. The servers are just great (if you read my reviews, I am seriously into great service) and I can't say enough good things about them. If I could eat 3 meals a day here, I would.

Awesome pickles. Great to finally find a deli near me with great chopped chicken liver and whitefish salad. Lunch sandwich was huge- I had to take half home. Menu is large and diverse and I can't wait to take people here. Goodness knows how I missed this place 3 miles away all these years.

I have been in Ben & Irv's a couple of times, and its a pretty good deli type place. Normally when I got eggs when I was there, which were fairly decent. Eggs are pretty hard to screw up, but they didn't seem to have anything special to them. The bagel I got with it didn't taste too fresh either. If I want to go to a place to get eggs, I will just stick to a diner instead.

I've taken my grandmother here for breakfast every time I'm in town. We get a nice Jewish plate of smoked fish, with bagels and all the accouterments. Arlene has been our server for years and she's a hoot! I have never eaten lunch here but I can tell you the kippered salmon and the belly lox are the best I have ever had. Their fish comes from Acme in Brooklyn and it's fresh and tasty.

I am horrified at hearing how discriminatory this *place* was towards a friend of mine, who was making arrangements for a MEMORIAL SERVICE. Shame on these ignorant people, to have such a lack of respect for other human beings, simply because they use a different means of communication. Yummy! This popular diner/deli has some really good food. Their lox and bagel platter is delish, and their white fish is out of this world. My husband & I visited for breakfast and were not disappointed. There was a bit of a line when we arrived, which we were expecting on a Saturday morning, but we were seated quickly and the wait staff was efficient and friendly. Ben and Irv's is the place to go if you're looking for standard but well-prepared and delicious deli fare. It tends to get crowded during the lunch and dinner hours, but they do have a take-out options and a deli counter up front featuring deli meats, cheeses, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, and other various selections. The food also takes a while to come out, but in the end it's all worth it.

Have only been to B&I's for breakfast, but we love it and make it a regular spot on weekends. Go early, as there is usually wait if you get their after 10:00 a.m. or so. Atmosphere is very diner-like, as is the service, but all in all, it's dependable, Good coffee, and love the "big breakfast" specials they do weekdays and weekends. Lots of food at a good price and you leave very satisfied, My health conscious hubby just loves their egg white omlets.

I conquered "The Stack", which is a corned beef special with pastrami, but rather than on bread, it's served open face on top of two potato latkes. This thing was out of control good! The wife enjoyed her bacon chicken avocado salad very much. You'll notice that the prices are moderate to high. However, you are paying for gigantic portions of freshly made everything! Bonnie was the most pleasant, genuine server I've encountered in a long, long time. She ran up to me as I was paying to give me my sunglasses that I'd left on the table. Thanks again, Bonnie!! This is a great location to have a restaurant inside a strip mall. Desided to try this place for the first time, for breakfast. When you walk in to the right you have the bakery and other kind of different lunch meats and foods you can get to go. And keep walking down and to the left you will see the dinning area to sit at. When arriving to sit down. It's not hard to notice that the lighting is as bright as it could be. So don't worry you will be enjoying your food with plenty of light around you. The menu portion is huge for breakfast and took me a little bit to desided on what I was getting. I got my usual the 2 eggs with meat. And coffee. The eggs, home fries and big peice of scrapple was good and so was coffee. And they give you toast with it and put butter and jelly on side. So great to have 2 options on if you want eaither one. The service was great. Waitress was so nice back at the table every 5 min. Asking how everything Was and if I need refill. Good waitressing is always a great thing that early in the morning. I look forward to coming back hear again.

When it comes to breakfast and lunch there's no better. I often have breakfast at Ben and Irv's in the winter due to my work schedule and I am never disappointed. The hostess and waitstaff are exceptionally pleasant and look for every opportunity to meet your needs. Their portion sizes are tremendous for the price. And you can order things to go while you're eating so that you have delicious food throughout the week. Their soups are outstanding. They also make it a fabulous Reuben sandwich. They seem to always have the freshest meats and breads which makes the experience that much more pleasurable. Bravo I say bravo.

After our monthly JRA deliveries, we customarily brunch at B&I. Although a little pricier than some of the other nearby breakfast places, one gets value in terms of the quality of the food, relative deliciousness of the coffee, general cleanliness of the place and the waitstaff who call you "hon." We almost always start on the specials page, which has a couple of family favs: The nova and bagel plate and the Biggee, which is a patron's own personal smorgasbord of eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast or bagel and home fries. It truly is enough for two, although the menfolk have been known to clean their plates. The Mister is also a fan of B&I's omelets but not thrilled with the scrapple (wrong brand and not cooked quite right). B&I also is a solid destination for a quick bite at dinner. Its weekday dinner specials compare favorably in price and amenities to diner offerings. In our rotation are the chopped salad, 1/2 chicken, and corned beef sandwich. My favorite part of a B&I dinner, however, is the complementary pickle bowl. The half-sours are a personal fav. The friendly, energetic vibe at B&I also is invigorating. B&I has a loyal clientele whose paths regularly cross at this suburban Grand Central Station. We love seeing and hearing the cross-restaurant greetings. I bought a Groupon for this place as I saw it had some great reviews and I'm always up for a great Jewish deli! As we went to Ben and Irv's, I experienced my typical dilemma - smoked fish or smoked meat. So I just couldn't help myself, and did both. I ordered a fish platter with whitefish salad and baked salmon (kippered salmon). It was fantastic. Like just as good as Brent's (Brent's is the best deli in L.A.). Whitefish not too fishy, just the right amount of fishy. Baked salmon perfectly smoked and soft. The cream cheese was standard which should have been whipped, but still good. The platter also had a nice amount of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers and looked really nice (I took a picture). Also ordered iced coffee which was surprisingly delicious. Iced coffee isn't usually something that I notice unless it is really good or really bad, but this iced coffee was reeeeally good. Service was very good and did not get the typical hassle when using Groupons or other coupons/vouchers and other restaurants. I was stuffed after that fish platter, so I strolled to the deli counter and got a few things to try later at home. I picked up some corned beef, whitefish salad (it was terrific), some excellent day old rye bread, and tuna salad. It was not cheap (except for the bread), but it was well worth it. This will be my go to deli from now on and looking forward to bringing guests here when they come to visit.

I absolutely love Ben and Irvs! It's a great Jewish deli (but not Kosher/Kosher style- keep in mind) There are so many different options for food. An extensive kids menu, options for people watching what they eat (and lots of options for people who aren't), and an amazing breakfast menu. The portions are quite large. Besides, you get free pickles to snack on while you wait! Yes, you'll have to wait if you come on a weekend, especially for breakfast/brunch. The place isn't huge, and it's very popular.

This was my second time coming to Ben & Irv's, my girlfriend grandparents are jewish and they took her here as a little girl and it brings back fond memories for her. So she suggested we go and get lunch. I have to say this is probably one of my favorite Jewish Delis, the food is authentic and is made just the way I would expected it to be, great! I orderd the Matzah Ball soup with a HUGE matzah ball in the middle, it was great! Also for an app my girlfriend and I shared a full order of Potato Pancakes, served wit ha side of sour cream and apple sauce, and wow they were big and we both wanted seconds. For lunch I ordered the Grilled Chicken Avocado Wrap, it was very delicious and I would also recommend to give it a try. They serve pickles to each table to munch on while you wait for your food, they're authentic Jewsh pickles which were amazing, if you love pickles! The waitresses are usually older, but friendly and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. ATMOSPHERE They've updated the place over the years, but it still has the same feel to it. Just a big room with a ton of booths, some tables. Nothing fancy about it, just trying to cram as many seating options into an area as possible. PRICE The pricing is reasonable. Though I was mildly interested in my wife's Reuben which was open faced, grilled to perfection w just the right amount of cheese. Food is good and fresh. The waitress we had on this visit was super. I asked for something not on the menu and she was super about it. She made sure the cook knew exactly what I wanted and then made sure after I got my sandwich that it was what I wanted. Super great service. The prices are a bit high, but in fairness to that, it's worth it. You get a lot and the food is fresh. Their salads, deli meats, and baked items are what I have had the most of.

As it has been mentioned before, this is your classic deli joint. It is extremely popular although I'd have to say it seems slightly over rated (from my humble opinion). The decor is average. It's unique if anything. But it's nothing beautiful and it's cramped for the amount of bodies they move through. There is quite a lot of older people who were there, both in terms of patrons and employees. There's nothing wrong with that, but it just goes to show who the demographic seems to be geared towards. The menu is absolutely enormous. This is either good or bad. It's not easy to read completely and it's a bit hard to completely grasp everything. We had a great pastrami sandwich. I personally didn't find the matzo ball soup to be anything special. Generally, this is a nice place to go for deli food. The decor is average. The service is fair.

Fountain sodas are great too -- not as great as a McDonald's fountain soda but not far behind. The hot open face turkey sandwich is amazing! The strangest thing is my brother orders a chicken parm and it's still good... Shows the true reach of the place. On the way out, grab some cookies and pretzels. I had the Corned Beef Special recently and was very disappointed. Usually you get the best sandwiches from a deli. It had a lot of mayonnaise and the Russian dressing was almost invisible. Also, had the chicken noodle soup, again disappointment. No chicken in the soup, only celery, carrots and noodles. Don't think I will be going there again!

Everything here is absolutely stellar! Open faced pastrami sandwich is divine, matzoh ball soup is wonderful, and their cheesecake and apple cake are phenomenal. If I didn't want to get one of everything on the menu, I would eat here more often, with that being said it is a tad bit pricey but for the quality of food you are getting, it is worth the price !

Awesomeness! Friendly staff and Fantastic food. The best Extra Lean Corned Beef Special on seedless rye ever and I sincerely mean EVER!!! No place comes even close to the quality and consistency. It's sizeable, lean, and moist due to the help of the 1000 island dressing. To enjoy bite after bite without chewing on any grizzle edged fat is a great thing. For breakfast the nova lox (not as salty as regular lox) on an untoasted plain bagel was terrific. The sandwich came with onion, cucumber, cream cheese, and lettuce. I chose to stack my lox ontop of kippered salmon (paid extra) embedded it in my cream cheese & capped with a crisp cucumber slice on top. An added plus was the Wild Cherry Pepsi available on tap. The only disappointment (and an area to certainly approve upon) were the pickles given at the table. At first sight they look crisp and hydrated but wait....they dehydrate quickly and are often on the softer side. A big fail! If they would build a pickle bar it would be a slam dunking success! (fresh pickles please) Oh...for wishful thinking. Overall though it's a great place to eat and a 5 star recommend!

Here at the moment and very upset with this place. No matter what my husband and I do we are always told we didnt order it right. I'm sorry but appetizers are just that if I want what I ordered with my meal I would say so. I had just gotten my soup and my meal was right behind, the waitress putting my soup on my table. Idk but I really am not going to eat a cold meal or let you keep my meal hot for me when theres cold coleslaw on it. Wake up you have done nothing but gone down hill in the ten years I have lived in HV. I actually prefer wasting gas and time driving to Harold's New York Style Deli in NJ at least I know my meal is right each and every time. Shame that I had to go this far and write a review since management and owners don't care. Also be careful they allow all workers to sit in dining area on break..not a very pretty site nor do I wish to sit or eat near the workers. This is for the fact that I was a waitress for 15 years and do believe in proper etiquette in a restaurant of any sort. I do not wish to see the workers chit chatting away instead of doing their jobs. For my husband to ask for a refill and wait 15 minutes for one is insane. Their was barely any customers so whats the problem. People are seeing now that tips are not given well this is why I won't give 20 percent, the server doesn't deserve it.

I've been on a Jewish deli kick lately, and I'd been hearing about B&I's for the longest time from family, so I decided to make the trip out here for lunch. It was a very good experience all around. First off, the space was really not what I was expecting. It looked a lot like a standard diner, but this place was packed. I think we got one of the last tables, and it was like 2pm on a Saturday! The recommendation that I got from my sister in law was to try the matzo ball soup at all costs, so I did. I have to say it was exceptional. It really rivals my fav matzo ball soup, which is at Pumpernick's. Then I went with a pastrami sandwich, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I probably should have gotten something on it (I just got pastrami on rye), but even in its most austere form, it was a great sandwich. The service was friendly and relaxed, and he did a great job of keeping our glasses full. Definitely recommend.

born and raised in the area. sadly, deli in philly has lost a lot of ground to new york... and even new jersey if you count harold's. sandwiches are small and made to look big by thinly slicing the meat. the quality of the "homemade" meats is mediocre... the best thing here is the mushroom barley soup. i guess compared to steve stein's famous deli, the competition is on par with being overpriced for quality and quantity. someone needs to raise the ladder because both places are complacent.

There used to be some competition for the Jewish deli biz in Jenkintown but tempus fugit. There still are a few places in Northeast yelp.com/search?find_des… but in the burbs it's Ben and Irv's. It's a modern deli with a case full of high cal high taste stuff they cut to order, loads of great baked goods and a huge deli/diner menu that features ads that give it the look of a magazine - not sure how I feel about that but hey the place makes up for it. Ask for seltzer and you don't have to tell them how to get it from the post mix machine, a mighty plethora of culinary choices from the semi healthy to the very bad. Recently we had breakfast here - my western omelet was fine nothing great nothing awful, i subbed fruit for the home fries for a buck and I declined the bagel for some nice rye toast. My wife had pancakes with a side of turkey bacon - the bacon was great, however the pancakes - at perhaps 1.30 on a Saturday after the breakfast chef may have gone home - were Jewish deli style - more is better but not this time - just a bit too thick on the pancakes...also kraft tubs of syrup rather then real maple syrup but just 5ish bucks for the plate of 3. Service is fine, and the room is very comfortable and clean. It's a good diner thats not Michel's with authentic Jewish flavor, and individually owned style.

I've eaten at deli's for many years coast to coast. This is one of the finest I've found. Ben & Irv's is the go-to spot in Huntington Valley, PA for all the comfort foods you've been missing. The menu is extensive, and the traditional Jewish-style fare is presented with the feeling of "Bubbie" inspiring (and perhaps supervising) the kitchen. My trio stopped in for lunch today and enjoyed a wonderful fish brunch platter which included lox (sliced right), whitefish salad (ordered chunky style, and sooo good), kippered salmon (pink and moist), chopped herring (a favorite of mine) and assorted fresh cut veggies. It was served with a choice of fresh bagels, cream cheese, and bottomless cups of freshly brewed coffee. Needing a sweet touch at the end (to neutralize the onions, of course), we enjoyed a large shared serving of Jewish apple cake. More than just dessert, this was a delightful confection of sliced apples, cinnamon and all the right other stuff to make it special. Yes Bubbie, this was more than just a meal. It was an enjoyed memory echoed from my youth. By the way, last week I attended a dinner for 150 catered by Ben & Irv's at a residential community clubhouse nearby. It was amazing. The owner/operator, Lenny Bromberg (who is onsite at most times) and his staff attended to every detail of this "New York, NY" theme party. The food was in abundance throughout the evening, presented handsomely, and non-stop in variety and quality.

There are way too many bad things to say about this place, too many! We went for dinner tonight, as expected the placed as packed but the queue moved fairly well. The waitress (Lexi) was totally ignorant to our party for four. There was some guy walking around asking customers how everything was. Surprise, surprise he never came to us. Probably afraid we would tell him the truth. The stuffed cabbage was tough because it was not cooked enough. The turkey ruben was dry. Gee, could you spare a little Russian dressing?! We all ordered water. It was served to us in juice cups. What is the a reason you cannot give us adult-sized cups? Oh, I heard Lexi nicely apologize to the people behind us for the small cups and explain there were no big cups. She never bothered to explain or apologize to us, yet the people across from us received big cups! We had to ask for pickles. The people next to us had pickles. Pickles are given to customers as soon as they are seated. However, we got a basket of bread, but no bread plates! Then Lexi mysteriously appeared with two boxes at the end of our meal. She was astute enough to know we were going to need only two boxes (four people in our party, but only two boxes needed). She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert, just showed up with the boxes! Oh, and the check! There was a gnat flying around our food while we were eating. If that's not a sign of a clean establishment (sarcasm!) I don't know what is!

Definitely one of the premier Jewish deli's in PA and not too far from the Philly area. These guys have been in business a long time and had the whole place renovated within the past 5-10 years, the best part is that it really makes a difference. So many old-school Jewish deli's (and old restaurants in general) have gone down by the way-side and think they can survive on the business of their 'regulars' without putting extra money into the future of the business. Ben & Irv's gets it, and knows that while their primary customer base is increasing in age, they still haev to produce a quality product and environment to keep them coming and bring in the younger generations as well. That being said, the set-up is really nice with the deli being completely separated from the restaurant with wall so that the patrons of each section aren't on top of one another. The deli case was one of the bigger one's I've seen with an entire section dedicated to meats, one for cheeses, and the last for smoked fish products from NY's Acme Smoked Fish (the best lox in the country, I love the deli's that carry their product AND Philly cream cheese, they make such a good couple). I wasn't starving but I definitely needed a decent-sized breakfast to get me through the day. They have a ton of breakfast options and everyday they do a different omelette-of-the-day with home fries, a bagel/toast and a cup of coffee for $7.95. Pretty good deal to me so I went with the Western Omelette and a bagel. Everything came out in about 5-8 minutes and tasted great. The home fries were particularly good and tasted as if they were made fresh from potatoes in the kitchen. (I doubt they were but wherever they order them from, they were of superior quality in the homefries category). Can't wait to try this place out for lunch and I know I'll get the opportunity as I am in the area from time to time.

My wife and I ate lunch here for the first time and we loved it! I conquered "The Stack", which is a corned beef special with pastrami, but rather than on bread, it's served open face on top of two potato latkes. This thing was out of control good! The wife enjoyed her bacon chicken avocado salad very much. You'll notice that the prices are moderate to high. However, you are paying for gigantic portions of freshly made everything! Bonnie was the most pleasant, genuine server I've encountered in a long, long time. She ran up to me as I was paying to give me my sunglasses that I'd left on the table. Thanks again, Bonnie!! This is a great location to have a restaurant inside a strip mall. Desided to try this place for the first time, for breakfast. When you walk in to the right you have the bakery and other kind of different lunch meats and foods you can get to go. And keep walking down and to the left you will see the dinning area to sit at. When arriving to sit down. It's not hard to notice that the lighting is as bright as it could be. So don't worry you will be enjoying your food with plenty of light around you. The menu portion is huge for breakfast and took me a little bit to desided on what I was getting. I got my usual the 2 eggs with meat. And coffee. The eggs, home fries and big peice of scrapple was good and so was coffee. And they give you toast with it and put butter and jelly on side. So great to have 2 options on if you want eaither one. The service was great. Waitress was so nice back at the table every 5 min. Asking how everything Was and if I need refill. Good waitressing is always a great thing that early in the morning. I look forward to coming back hear again.

When it comes to breakfast and lunch there's no better. I often have breakfast at Ben and Irv's in the winter due to my work schedule and I am never disappointed. The hostess and waitstaff are exceptionally pleasant and look for every opportunity to meet your needs. Their portion sizes are tremendous for the price. And you can order things to go while you're eating so that you have delicious food throughout the week. Their soups are outstanding. They also make it a fabulous Reuben sandwich. They seem to always have the freshest meats and breads which makes the experience that much more pleasurable. Bravo I say bravo.

After our monthly JRA deliveries, we customarily brunch at B&I. Although a little pricier than some of the other nearby breakfast places, one gets value in terms of the quality of the food, relative deliciousness of the coffee, general cleanliness of the place and the waitstaff who call you "hon." We almost always start on the specials page, which has a couple of family favs: The nova and bagel plate and the Biggee, which is a patron's own personal smorgasbord of eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast or bagel and home fries. It truly is enough for two, although the menfolk have been known to clean their plates. The Mister is also a fan of B&I's omelets but not thrilled with the scrapple (wrong brand and not cooked quite right). B&I also is a solid destination for a quick bite at dinner. Its weekday dinner specials compare favorably in price and amenities to diner offerings. In our rotation are the chopped salad, 1/2 chicken, and corned beef sandwich. My favorite part of a B&I dinner, however, is the complementary pickle bowl. The half-sours are a personal fav. The friendly, energetic vibe at B&I also is invigorating. B&I has a loyal clientele whose paths regularly cross at this suburban Grand Central Station. We love seeing and hearing the cross-restaurant greetings. I bought a Groupon for this place as I saw it had some great reviews and I'm always up for a great Jewish deli! As we went to Ben and Irv's, I experienced my typical dilemma - smoked fish or smoked meat. So I just couldn't help myself, and did both. I ordered a fish platter with whitefish salad and baked salmon (kippered salmon). It was fantastic. Like just as good as Brent's (Brent's is the best deli in L.A.). Whitefish not too fishy, just the right amount of fishy. Baked salmon perfectly smoked and soft. The cream cheese was standard which should have been whipped, but still good. The platter also had a nice amount of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers and looked really nice (I took a picture). Also ordered iced coffee which was surprisingly delicious. Iced coffee isn't usually something that I notice unless it is really good or really bad, but this iced coffee was reeeeally good. Service was very good and did not get the typical hassle when using Groupons or other coupons/vouchers and other restaurants. I was stuffed after that fish platter, so I strolled to the deli counter and got a few things to try later at home. I picked up some corned beef, whitefish salad (it was terrific), some excellent day old rye bread, and tuna salad. It was not cheap (except for the bread), but it was well worth it. This will be my go to deli from now on and looking forward to bringing guests here when they come to visit.

I absolutely love Ben and Irvs! It's a great Jewish deli (but not Kosher/Kosher style- keep in mind) There are so many different options for food. An extensive kids menu, options for people watching what they eat (and lots of options for people who aren't), and an amazing breakfast menu. The portions are quite large. Try the matzoball soup or mushroom barley soup for an appetizer. Service is hit or miss as far as friendliness goes, but I've never had to wait a while for my food. Besides, you get free pickles to snack on while you wait! Yes, you'll have to wait if you come on a weekend, especially for breakfast/brunch. The place isn't huge, and it's very popular.

Food is good and fresh. The waitress we had on this visit was super. I asked for something not on the menu and she was super about it. She made sure the cook knew exactly what I wanted and then made sure after I got my sandwich that it was what I wanted. Super great service. The prices are a bit high, but in fairness to that, it's worth it. You get a lot and the food is fresh. Their salads, deli meats, and baked items are what I have had the most of.

As it has been mentioned before, this is your classic deli joint. It is extremely popular although I'd have to say it seems slightly over rated (from my humble opinion). The decor is average. It's unique if anything. But it's nothing beautiful and it's cramped for the amount of bodies they move through. There is quite a lot of older people who were there, both in terms of patrons and employees. There's nothing wrong with that, but it just goes to show who the demographic seems to be geared towards. The menu is absolutely enormous. This is either good or bad. It's not easy to read completely and it's a bit hard to completely grasp everything. We had a great pastrami sandwich. I personally didn't find the matzo ball soup to be anything special. Generally, this is a nice place to go for deli food. The decor is average. The service is fair.

One of the best deli/diners around. The place is always crowded but the service never suffers. The matzoh ball soup is excellent. Fountain sodas are great too -- not as great as a McDonald's fountain soda but not far behind. The hot open face turkey sandwich is amazing! The strangest thing is my brother orders a chicken parm and it's still good... Shows the true reach of the place. On the way out, grab some cookies and pretzels. I had the Corned Beef Special recently and was very disappointed. Usually you get the best sandwiches from a deli. It had a lot of mayonnaise and the Russian dressing was almost invisible. Also, had the chicken noodle soup, again disappointment. No chicken in the soup, only celery, carrots and noodles. Don't think I will be going there again!

Awesomeness! Friendly staff and Fantastic food. The best Extra Lean Corned Beef Special on seedless rye ever and I sincerely mean EVER!!! No place comes even close to the quality and consistency. It's sizeable, lean, and moist due to the help of the 1000 island dressing. To enjoy bite after bite without chewing on any grizzle edged fat is a great thing. For breakfast the nova lox (not as salty as regular lox) on an untoasted plain bagel was terrific. The sandwich came with onion, cucumber, cream cheese, and lettuce. I chose to stack my lox ontop of kippered salmon (paid extra) embedded it in my cream cheese & capped with a crisp cucumber slice on top. An added plus was the Wild Cherry Pepsi available on tap. The only disappointment (and an area to certainly approve upon) were the pickles given at the table. At first sight they look crisp and hydrated but wait....they dehydrate quickly and are often on the softer side. A big fail! If they would build a pickle bar it would be a slam dunking success! (fresh pickles please) Oh...for wishful thinking. Overall though it's a great place to eat and a 5 star recommend!

This place is pretty decent. It is a Jewish Style Deli, but not kosher. The food is good and the portions are huge. The menu is insanely large and difficult to navigate. Here at the moment and very upset with this place. No matter what my husband and I do we are always told we didnt order it right. I'm sorry but appetizers are just that if I want what I ordered with my meal I would say so. I had just gotten my soup and my meal was right behind, the waitress putting my soup on my table. Idk but I really am not going to eat a cold meal or let you keep my meal hot for me when theres cold coleslaw on it. Wake up you have done nothing but gone down hill in the ten years I have lived in HV. I actually prefer wasting gas and time driving to Harold's New York Style Deli in NJ at least I know my meal is right each and every time. Shame that I had to go this far and write a review since management and owners don't care. Also be careful they allow all workers to sit in dining area on break..not a very pretty site nor do I wish to sit or eat near the workers. This is for the fact that I was a waitress for 15 years and do believe in proper etiquette in a restaurant of any sort. I do not wish to see the workers chit chatting away instead of doing their jobs. For my husband to ask for a refill and wait 15 minutes for one is insane. Their was barely any customers so whats the problem. People are seeing now that tips are not given well this is why I won't give 20 percent, the server doesn't deserve it.

I've been on a Jewish deli kick lately, and I'd been hearing about B&I's for the longest time from family, so I decided to make the trip out here for lunch. It was a very good experience all around. First off, the space was really not what I was expecting. It looked a lot like a standard diner, but this place was packed. I think we got one of the last tables, and it was like 2pm on a Saturday! The recommendation that I got from my sister in law was to try the matzo ball soup at all costs, so I did. I have to say it was exceptional. It really rivals my fav matzo ball soup, which is at Pumpernick's. Then I went with a pastrami sandwich, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I probably should have gotten something on it (I just got pastrami on rye), but even in its most austere form, it was a great sandwich. The service was friendly and relaxed, and he did a great job of keeping our glasses full. Definitely recommend.

born and raised in the area. sadly, deli in philly has lost a lot of ground to new york... and even new jersey if you count harold's. sandwiches are small and made to look big by thinly slicing the meat. the quality of the "homemade" meats is mediocre... the best thing here is the mushroom barley soup. i guess compared to steve stein's famous deli, the competition is on par with being overpriced for quality and quantity. someone needs to raise the ladder because both places are complacent.

There used to be some competition for the Jewish deli biz in Jenkintown but tempus fugit. There still are a few places in Northeast yelp.com/search?find_des… but in the burbs it's Ben and Irv's. It's a modern deli with a case full of high cal high taste stuff they cut to order, loads of great baked goods and a huge deli/diner menu that features ads that give it the look of a magazine - not sure how I feel about that but hey the place makes up for it. Ask for seltzer and you don't have to tell them how to get it from the post mix machine, a mighty plethora of culinary choices from the semi healthy to the very bad. Recently we had breakfast here - my western omelet was fine nothing great nothing awful, i subbed fruit for the home fries for a buck and I declined the bagel for some nice rye toast. My wife had pancakes with a side of turkey bacon - the bacon was great, however the pancakes - at perhaps 1.30 on a Saturday after the breakfast chef may have gone home - were Jewish deli style - more is better but not this time - just a bit too thick on the pancakes...also kraft tubs of syrup rather then real maple syrup but just 5ish bucks for the plate of 3. Service is fine, and the room is very comfortable and clean. It's a good diner thats not Michel's with authentic Jewish flavor, and individually owned style.

I've eaten at deli's for many years coast to coast. This is one of the finest I've found. Ben & Irv's is the go-to spot in Huntington Valley, PA for all the comfort foods you've been missing. The menu is extensive, and the traditional Jewish-style fare is presented with the feeling of "Bubbie" inspiring (and perhaps supervising) the kitchen. My trio stopped in for lunch today and enjoyed a wonderful fish brunch platter which included lox (sliced right), whitefish salad (ordered chunky style, and sooo good), kippered salmon (pink and moist), chopped herring (a favorite of mine) and assorted fresh cut veggies. It was served with a choice of fresh bagels, cream cheese, and bottomless cups of freshly brewed coffee. Needing a sweet touch at the end (to neutralize the onions, of course), we enjoyed a large shared serving of Jewish apple cake. More than just dessert, this was a delightful confection of sliced apples, cinnamon and all the right other stuff to make it special. Yes Bubbie, this was more than just a meal. It was an enjoyed memory echoed from my youth. By the way, last week I attended a dinner for 150 catered by Ben & Irv's at a residential community clubhouse nearby. It was amazing. The owner/operator, Lenny Bromberg (who is onsite at most times) and his staff attended to every detail of this "New York, NY" theme party. The food was in abundance throughout the evening, presented handsomely, and non-stop in variety and quality.

There are way too many bad things to say about this place, too many! We went for dinner tonight, as expected the placed as packed but the queue moved fairly well. The waitress (Lexi) was totally ignorant to our party for four. There was some guy walking around asking customers how everything was. Surprise, surprise he never came to us. Probably afraid we would tell him the truth. The stuffed cabbage was tough because it was not cooked enough. The turkey ruben was dry. Gee, could you spare a little Russian dressing?! We all ordered water. It was served to us in juice cups. What is the a reason you cannot give us adult-sized cups? Oh, I heard Lexi nicely apologize to the people behind us for the small cups and explain there were no big cups. She never bothered to explain or apologize to us, yet the people across from us received big cups! We had to ask for pickles. The people next to us had pickles. Pickles are given to customers as soon as they are seated. However, we got a basket of bread, but no bread plates! Then Lexi mysteriously appeared with two boxes at the end of our meal. She was astute enough to know we were going to need only two boxes (four people in our party, but only two boxes needed). She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert, just showed up with the boxes! Oh, and the check! There was a gnat flying around our food while we were eating. If that's not a sign of a clean establishment (sarcasm!) I don't know what is!

Definitely one of the premier Jewish deli's in PA and not too far from the Philly area. These guys have been in business a long time and had the whole place renovated within the past 5-10 years, the best part is that it really makes a difference. So many old-school Jewish deli's (and old restaurants in general) have gone down by the way-side and think they can survive on the business of their 'regulars' without putting extra money into the future of the business. Ben & Irv's gets it, and knows that while their primary customer base is increasing in age, they still haev to produce a quality product and environment to keep them coming and bring in the younger generations as well. That being said, the set-up is really nice with the deli being completely separated from the restaurant with wall so that the patrons of each section aren't on top of one another. The deli case was one of the bigger one's I've seen with an entire section dedicated to meats, one for cheeses, and the last for smoked fish products from NY's Acme Smoked Fish (the best lox in the country, I love the deli's that carry their product AND Philly cream cheese, they make such a good couple). I wasn't starving but I definitely needed a decent-sized breakfast to get me through the day. They have a ton of breakfast options and everyday they do a different omelette-of-the-day with home fries, a bagel/toast and a cup of coffee for $7.95. Pretty good deal to me so I went with the Western Omelette and a bagel. Everything came out in about 5-8 minutes and tasted great. The home fries were particularly good and tasted as if they were made fresh from potatoes in the kitchen. (I doubt they were but wherever they order them from, they were of superior quality in the homefries category). Can't wait to try this place out for lunch and I know I'll get the opportunity as I am in the area from time to time.

This place is NIRVANA!!!!!! Not a Kosher deli, but outta sight Jewish style deli. The food is always fresh and plentiful, so much so that a take home container is pretty much a requirement. Never had a stale piece of rye, or bagel. Never had vegetables that were questionable. All if it looks fresh and appealing. My wife and I went for breakfast on Easter Sunday, also around the time of Passover, and it was quite crowded. They accommodated us easily. And the food was well worth the 30 minute drive. I would love to rent a room there so I could be closer. I think I can safely say that this is my most favorite restaurant this side of the the Atlantic Ocean. The servers are just great (if you read my reviews, I am seriously into great service) and I can't say enough good things about them. If I could eat 3 meals a day here, I would.

Sandwich size was decent, but quality was not equivalent to the price. Service was average. Our waitress scored a 33%...she got 1 of 3 dishes correct. Which happens....but since she took our order by memory....that I find annoying. Also, I'm a little over 40 yrs old...and I was by far the youngest patron there. (By a good 15 + years). Overall, been there so many times, I would go again.

Anytime I'm craving a good pastrami on rye or just a diner style grilled cheese this is the place. There is so much to say about B&I, yet so little needs to. Just know if this place has lasted 60+ years and still has come out on top, there is a reason for it. Needed a pastrami fix, so I went to Ben and Irvs. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered their NY Pastrami, their lean in house made pastrami. Very salty, no pepper on the outside. Defining flavors were mace, all spice. The portion was warm, generous without being obscene like Carnegie Deli in NYC. The rye bread (no seeds) was sub par and fell apart with the sandwich. Accompanying the sandwich was a bowl of pickles (one tomato, on dill, one half dill and one phallic shaped thing that was paler than my own Wasp skin. Chips were wise potato chips in a bag. All this for 10 dollars. Next.

First, be prepared if going at a traditional meal time for a crazy crowd!! This restaurant is very popular in the area and while the wait wasn't too bad, the line was out the door on a Saturday afternoon. The menu here is extensive and I love that they have 5 or 6 soups to choose from (I'm a soup junky). I had a simple grilled cheese, and it was pretty darn cheesy. My husband had a rueben and he was very pleased with it. Overall a great place to stop in for a lunch - and probably a dinner as well.

Ever head into the Cheesecake Factory (perish the thought) and think "my, this menu just isn't long enough." Well, Ben & Irv will blow your mind. This place is a hidden gem in Montgomery County. Kind of a cross between a diner and Jewish deli, the food and staff fail to disappoint. My last gastronomic foray here had me starting off with a potato knish. I could smell the onions on this thing 10 feet away but it was delicious. I then moved onto the open faced pastrami on rye with melted swiss, cole slaw and russian dressing. I have no idea how they got the pastrami so thin. It was to die for. This was possibly the best sandwich I've had in 2010. On one of my prior visits, I ordered the Jewish hoagie. There must have been about five pounds of cold cuts packed into this sucker but damn was it good. Don't miss the pastries on the way out. Their Jewish apple cake is a thing of beauty.

Brought my 6 month old daughter here not too long ago... had the matza ball soup, potato pancakes, and a corned beef special (basically a reuben) sandwich. I liked it all and so did she! She loved the soup and the applesauce from the potato pancakes. I was also a fan of all the food. The sandwich was big and packed with meat (although I could've enjoyed a little more sauce and slaw), the potato pancakes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the matza ball soup was tasty. The waiter was also very friendly and very chatty (perhaps a little too much so!) The selection is also gigantic as another reviewer mentioned. My only gripes are that it took forever to pay at the single register, and that as good as the food was, it was somewhat unremarkable. However, that does not stop Ben and Irvs from getting my recommendation!

I have been in Ben & Irv's a couple of times, and its a pretty good deli type place. Normally when I got eggs when I was there, which were fairly decent. Eggs are pretty hard to screw up, but they didn't seem to have anything special to them. The bagel I got with it didn't taste too fresh either. If I want to go to a place to get eggs, I will just stick to a diner instead.

Shame on these ignorant people, to have such a lack of respect for other human beings, simply because they use a different means of communication. Well in town for a few days and this was the start to eating my way around the area. I have to say...I wish more places were like this! The waitresses were most helpful. Have only been to B&I's for breakfast, but we love it and make it a regular spot on weekends. Go early, as there is usually wait if you get their after 10:00 a.m. or so. Atmosphere is very diner-like, as is the service, but all in all, it's dependable, Good coffee, and love the "big breakfast" specials they do weekdays and weekends. Lots of food at a good price and you leave very satisfied, My health conscious hubby just loves their egg white omlets.

I love me some Ben and Irv's. I have been going here for years. We often would meet one of my aunts there for breakfast every other month or so. Now I have a best friend who I meet there for breakfast every other month or so also. It's tradition! I can't speak as much for other meals, but I love their breakfasts. I often try different things when I am there. The omelets are great, I love their breakfast wraps, and just eggs, toast and home fries are also good! Pancakes are yummy (especially with chocolate chips). I also enjoy their waffles. And their challah french toast rocks!

I've taken my grandmother here for breakfast every time I'm in town. We get a nice Jewish plate of smoked fish, with bagels and all the accouterments. Arlene has been our server for years and she's a hoot! I have never eaten lunch here but I can tell you the kippered salmon and the belly lox are the best I have ever had. Their fish comes from Acme in Brooklyn and it's fresh and tasty.

Always reliable Jewish deli. They have a huge menu - ranging from breakfast foods to deli to hot sandwiches and entrees to desserts and bakes goods. Definitely a great place for breakfasts and early bird dinners, though it can get really crowded and sometimes there is a long line. They have delicious low fat muffins, available at the deli counter, that are quite pricey, but worth it in my opinion. I always grab a few on my way out.

It used to be better in the past. Now it is losing its luster and the lines are too long (I guess maybe I am overlooking something that made this place popular?). The tables too closed together, service people act frantic and bumps into you while you are sipping your coffee... I ordered corn beef sandwich and I have tasted better ones elsewhere. Too much fat in it as I asked for lean ones. I guess they do not really care for your specific instructions on how you want your food to be made. I had asked in a very clear way that I want LEAN corn beef and cut away the fat. Nope... they served me fatty side of corn beef.... Left with a spilled coffee on my shirt and upset stomach.... No thanks!

I could have sworn I already wrote a review for this place... but I guess it's typical of Ben & Irv's that it slipped my mind! My family has been going here for years for Saturday morning brunch, and still go occasionally when I am back in the suburbs. I actually liked it better before they remodeled; before, it had a diner charm, now it merely looks like it's trying to be classier than it is. The waitresses, though, haven't changed. The same cigarette-roughened voice greets you today that greeted you 10 years ago. It's kind of nice; they are efficient. I've never really gotten food other than omelettes here; it seems a bit overpriced from what I can see, but for solid, unmemorable feta cheese omeletets and hash browns in the suburbs that will get you seated quickly even with long lines, Ben & Irv's can't be beat. They also have the nostalgia factor going on. Ah, Ben & Irv's.

My wife and I ate lunch here for the first time and we loved it! I conquered "The Stack", which is a corned beef special with pastrami, but rather than on bread, it's served open face on top of two potato latkes. This thing was out of control good! The wife enjoyed her bacon chicken avocado salad very much. You'll notice that the prices are moderate to high. However, you are paying for gigantic portions of freshly made everything! Bonnie was the most pleasant, genuine server I've encountered in a long, long time. She ran up to me as I was paying to give me my sunglasses that I'd left on the table. Thanks again, Bonnie!! So, Internet...Ben and Irv's is an A+ and they'll be seeing us again and again and again!

Awesome pickles. Great to finally find a deli near me with great chopped chicken liver and whitefish salad. Lunch sandwich was huge- I had to take half home. Menu is large and diverse and I can't wait to take people here. Goodness knows how I missed this place 3 miles away all these years.

I have been in Ben & Irv's a couple of times, and its a pretty good deli type place. Normally when I got eggs when I was there, which were fairly decent. Eggs are pretty hard to screw up, but they didn't seem to have anything special to them. The bagel I got with it didn't taste too fresh either. If I want to go to a place to get eggs, I will just stick to a diner instead.

I've taken my grandmother here for breakfast every time I'm in town. We get a nice Jewish plate of smoked fish, with bagels and all the accouterments. Arlene has been our server for years and she's a hoot! I have never eaten lunch here but I can tell you the kippered salmon and the belly lox are the best I have ever had. Their fish comes from Acme in Brooklyn and it's fresh and tasty.

I am horrified at hearing how discriminatory this *place* was towards a friend of mine, who was making arrangements for a MEMORIAL SERVICE. Shame on these ignorant people, to have such a lack of respect for other human beings, simply because they use a different means of communication. Yummy! This popular diner/deli has some really good food. Their lox and bagel platter is delish, and their white fish is out of this world. They also have great breakfast selections like cream chipped beef and eggs benedict. It's always packed, but the wait is not usually too long. The staff in general are friendly and accomodatng.

There was a bit of a line when we arrived, which we were expecting on a Saturday morning, but we were seated quickly and the wait staff was efficient and friendly. Ben and Irv's is the place to go if you're looking for standard but well-prepared and delicious deli fare. It tends to get crowded during the lunch and dinner hours, but they do have a take-out options and a deli counter up front featuring deli meats, cheeses, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, and other various selections. The food also takes a while to come out, but in the end it's all worth it.

Have only been to B&I's for breakfast, but we love it and make it a regular spot on weekends. Go early, as there is usually wait if you get their after 10:00 a.m. or so. Atmosphere is very diner-like, as is the service, but all in all, it's dependable, Good coffee, and love the "big breakfast" specials they do weekdays and weekends. Lots of food at a good price and you leave very satisfied, My health conscious hubby just loves their egg white omlets.

This is a great location to have a restaurant inside a strip mall. Desided to try this place for the first time, for breakfast. When you walk in to the right you have the bakery and other kind of different lunch meats and foods you can get to go. And keep walking down and to the left you will see the dinning area to sit at. When arriving to sit down. It's not hard to notice that the lighting is as bright as it could be. So don't worry you will be enjoying your food with plenty of light around you. The menu portion is huge for breakfast and took me a little bit to desided on what I was getting. I got my usual the 2 eggs with meat. And coffee. The eggs, home fries and big peice of scrapple was good and so was coffee. And they give you toast with it and put butter and jelly on side. So great to have 2 options on if you want eaither one. The service was great. Waitress was so nice back at the table every 5 min. Asking how everything Was and if I need refill. Good waitressing is always a great thing that early in the morning. I look forward to coming back hear again.

When it comes to breakfast and lunch there's no better. I often have breakfast at Ben and Irv's in the winter due to my work schedule and I am never disappointed. The hostess and waitstaff are exceptionally pleasant and look for every opportunity to meet your needs. Their portion sizes are tremendous for the price. And you can order things to go while you're eating so that you have delicious food throughout the week. Their soups are outstanding. They also make it a fabulous Reuben sandwich. They seem to always have the freshest meats and breads which makes the experience that much more pleasurable. Bravo I say bravo.

After our monthly JRA deliveries, we customarily brunch at B&I. Although a little pricier than some of the other nearby breakfast places, one gets value in terms of the quality of the food, relative deliciousness of the coffee, general cleanliness of the place and the waitstaff who call you "hon." We almost always start on the specials page, which has a couple of family favs: The nova and bagel plate and the Biggee, which is a patron's own personal smorgasbord of eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast or bagel and home fries. It truly is enough for two, although the menfolk have been known to clean their plates. The Mister is also a fan of B&I's omelets but not thrilled with the scrapple (wrong brand and not cooked quite right). B&I also is a solid destination for a quick bite at dinner. Its weekday dinner specials compare favorably in price and amenities to diner offerings. In our rotation are the chopped salad, 1/2 chicken, and corned beef sandwich. My favorite part of a B&I dinner, however, is the complementary pickle bowl. The half-sours are a personal fav. The friendly, energetic vibe at B&I also is invigorating. B&I has a loyal clientele whose paths regularly cross at this suburban Grand Central Station. We love seeing and hearing the cross-restaurant greetings. I bought a Groupon for this place as I saw it had some great reviews and I'm always up for a great Jewish deli! As we went to Ben and Irv's, I experienced my typical dilemma - smoked fish or smoked meat. So I just couldn't help myself, and did both. I ordered a fish platter with whitefish salad and baked salmon (kippered salmon). It was fantastic. Like just as good as Brent's (Brent's is the best deli in L.A.). Whitefish not too fishy, just the right amount of fishy. Baked salmon perfectly smoked and soft. The cream cheese was standard which should have been whipped, but still good. The platter also had a nice amount of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers and looked really nice (I took a picture). Also ordered iced coffee which was surprisingly delicious. Iced coffee isn't usually something that I notice unless it is really good or really bad, but this iced coffee was reeeeally good. Service was very good and did not get the typical hassle when using Groupons or other coupons/vouchers and other restaurants. I was stuffed after that fish platter, so I strolled to the deli counter and got a few things to try later at home. I picked up some corned beef, whitefish salad (it was terrific), some excellent day old rye bread, and tuna salad. It was not cheap (except for the bread), but it was well worth it. This will be my go to deli from now on and looking forward to bringing guests here when they come to visit.

This was my second time coming to Ben & Irv's, my girlfriend grandparents are jewish and they took her here as a little girl and it brings back fond memories for her. So she suggested we go and get lunch. I have to say this is probably one of my favorite Jewish Delis, the food is authentic and is made just the way I would expected it to be, great! I orderd the Matzah Ball soup with a HUGE matzah ball in the middle, it was great! Also for an app my girlfriend and I shared a full order of Potato Pancakes, served wit ha side of sour cream and apple sauce, and wow they were big and we both wanted seconds. For lunch I ordered the Grilled Chicken Avocado Wrap, it was very delicious and I would also recommend to give it a try. They serve pickles to each table to munch on while you wait for your food, they're authentic Jewsh pickles which were amazing, if you love pickles! Will always keep Ben & Irv's on my list as one of my favorite Jewish Delis.

I've been going to Ben & Irv's for years and the place hasn't changed at all. This place is a good Jewish deli, with a good size menu and good food. Breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, Ben & Irv's serves up a good Jewish meal. FOOD A typical deli, lots of choices and the quality is pretty good. Breakfast has a good selection with good portion sizes and good quality. Lunch is also a pretty good deal. SERVICE Usually the service is pretty on point at Ben & Irv's. The waitresses are usually older, but friendly and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. ATMOSPHERE They've updated the place over the years, but it still has the same feel to it. Just a big room with a ton of booths, some tables. Nothing fancy about it, just trying to cram as many seating options into an area as possible. PRICE The pricing is reasonable. For breakfast or lunch it is a good deal, but dinner is a little bit on the pricer side for a deli. I'll keep coming back here because it's a good location and it's comfort food. Nothing quite like biting into a pastrami sandwich and having the wonderful juices run down my arm into my sweater. The BEST pastrami in town. Though I was mildly interested in my wife's Reuben which was open faced, grilled to perfection w just the right amount of cheese. All of this goodness was preceded by a classic bowl of matzoh ball w just enough to split 4 ways. I absolutely love Ben and Irvs! It's a great Jewish deli (but not Kosher/Kosher style- keep in mind) There are so many different options for food. An extensive kids menu, options for people watching what they eat (and lots of options for people who aren't), and an amazing breakfast menu. The portions are quite large. Try the matzoball soup or mushroom barley soup for an appetizer. Service is hit or miss as far as friendliness goes, but I've never had to wait a while for my food. Besides, you get free pickles to snack on while you wait! Yes, you'll have to wait if you come on a weekend, especially for breakfast/brunch. The place isn't huge, and it's very popular.

Food is good and fresh. The waitress we had on this visit was super. I asked for something not on the menu and she was super about it. She made sure the cook knew exactly what I wanted and then made sure after I got my sandwich that it was what I wanted. Super great service. The prices are a bit high, but in fairness to that, it's worth it. You get a lot and the food is fresh. Their salads, deli meats, and baked items are what I have had the most of.

As it has been mentioned before, this is your classic deli joint. It is extremely popular although I'd have to say it seems slightly over rated (from my humble opinion). The decor is average. It's unique if anything. But it's nothing beautiful and it's cramped for the amount of bodies they move through. There is quite a lot of older people who were there, both in terms of patrons and employees. There's nothing wrong with that, but it just goes to show who the demographic seems to be geared towards. The menu is absolutely enormous. This is either good or bad. It's not easy to read completely and it's a bit hard to completely grasp everything. We had a great pastrami sandwich. I personally didn't find the matzo ball soup to be anything special. Generally, this is a nice place to go for deli food. The decor is average. The service is fair.

One of the best deli/diners around. The place is always crowded but the service never suffers. The matzoh ball soup is excellent. Fountain sodas are great too -- not as great as a McDonald's fountain soda but not far behind. The hot open face turkey sandwich is amazing! I had the Corned Beef Special recently and was very disappointed. Usually you get the best sandwiches from a deli. It had a lot of mayonnaise and the Russian dressing was almost invisible. Also, had the chicken noodle soup, again disappointment. No chicken in the soup, only celery, carrots and noodles. Don't think I will be going there again!

Everything here is absolutely stellar! Open faced pastrami sandwich is divine, matzoh ball soup is wonderful, and their cheesecake and apple cake are phenomenal. If I didn't want to get one of everything on the menu, I would eat here more often, with that being said it is a tad bit pricey but for the quality of food you are getting, it is worth the price !

Awesomeness! Friendly staff and Fantastic food. The best Extra Lean Corned Beef Special on seedless rye ever and I sincerely mean EVER!!! No place comes even close to the quality and consistency. It's sizeable, lean, and moist due to the help of the 1000 island dressing. To enjoy bite after bite without chewing on any grizzle edged fat is a great thing. For breakfast the nova lox (not as salty as regular lox) on an untoasted plain bagel was terrific. The sandwich came with onion, cucumber, cream cheese, and lettuce. I chose to stack my lox ontop of kippered salmon (paid extra) embedded it in my cream cheese & capped with a crisp cucumber slice on top. An added plus was the Wild Cherry Pepsi available on tap. The only disappointment (and an area to certainly approve upon) were the pickles given at the table. At first sight they look crisp and hydrated but wait....they dehydrate quickly and are often on the softer side. A big fail! If they would build a pickle bar it would be a slam dunking success! (fresh pickles please) Oh...for wishful thinking. Overall though it's a great place to eat and a 5 star recommend!

Here at the moment and very upset with this place. No matter what my husband and I do we are always told we didnt order it right. I'm sorry but appetizers are just that if I want what I ordered with my meal I would say so. I had just gotten my soup and my meal was right behind, the waitress putting my soup on my table. Idk but I really am not going to eat a cold meal or let you keep my meal hot for me when theres cold coleslaw on it. Wake up you have done nothing but gone down hill in the ten years I have lived in HV. I actually prefer wasting gas and time driving to Harold's New York Style Deli in NJ at least I know my meal is right each and every time. Shame that I had to go this far and write a review since management and owners don't care. Also be careful they allow all workers to sit in dining area on break..not a very pretty site nor do I wish to sit or eat near the workers. This is for the fact that I was a waitress for 15 years and do believe in proper etiquette in a restaurant of any sort. I do not wish to see the workers chit chatting away instead of doing their jobs. For my husband to ask for a refill and wait 15 minutes for one is insane. Their was barely any customers so whats the problem. People are seeing now that tips are not given well this is why I won't give 20 percent, the server doesn't deserve it.

I've been on a Jewish deli kick lately, and I'd been hearing about B&I's for the longest time from family, so I decided to make the trip out here for lunch. It was a very good experience all around. First off, the space was really not what I was expecting. It looked a lot like a standard diner, but this place was packed. I think we got one of the last tables, and it was like 2pm on a Saturday! The recommendation that I got from my sister in law was to try the matzo ball soup at all costs, so I did. I have to say it was exceptional. It really rivals my fav matzo ball soup, which is at Pumpernick's. Then I went with a pastrami sandwich, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I probably should have gotten something on it (I just got pastrami on rye), but even in its most austere form, it was a great sandwich. The service was friendly and relaxed, and he did a great job of keeping our glasses full. Definitely recommend.

born and raised in the area. sadly, deli in philly has lost a lot of ground to new york... and even new jersey if you count harold's. sandwiches are small and made to look big by thinly slicing the meat. the quality of the "homemade" meats is mediocre... the best thing here is the mushroom barley soup. i guess compared to steve stein's famous deli, the competition is on par with being overpriced for quality and quantity. someone needs to raise the ladder because both places are complacent.

There used to be some competition for the Jewish deli biz in Jenkintown but tempus fugit. There still are a few places in Northeast yelp.com/search?find_des… but in the burbs it's Ben and Irv's. It's a modern deli with a case full of high cal high taste stuff they cut to order, loads of great baked goods and a huge deli/diner menu that features ads that give it the look of a magazine - not sure how I feel about that but hey the place makes up for it. Ask for seltzer and you don't have to tell them how to get it from the post mix machine, a mighty plethora of culinary choices from the semi healthy to the very bad. Recently we had breakfast here - my western omelet was fine nothing great nothing awful, i subbed fruit for the home fries for a buck and I declined the bagel for some nice rye toast. My wife had pancakes with a side of turkey bacon - the bacon was great, however the pancakes - at perhaps 1.30 on a Saturday after the breakfast chef may have gone home - were Jewish deli style - more is better but not this time - just a bit too thick on the pancakes...also kraft tubs of syrup rather then real maple syrup but just 5ish bucks for the plate of 3. Service is fine, and the room is very comfortable and clean. It's a good diner thats not Michel's with authentic Jewish flavor, and individually owned style.

I've eaten at deli's for many years coast to coast. This is one of the finest I've found. Ben & Irv's is the go-to spot in Huntington Valley, PA for all the comfort foods you've been missing. The menu is extensive, and the traditional Jewish-style fare is presented with the feeling of "Bubbie" inspiring (and perhaps supervising) the kitchen. My trio stopped in for lunch today and enjoyed a wonderful fish brunch platter which included lox (sliced right), whitefish salad (ordered chunky style, and sooo good), kippered salmon (pink and moist), chopped herring (a favorite of mine) and assorted fresh cut veggies. It was served with a choice of fresh bagels, cream cheese, and bottomless cups of freshly brewed coffee. Needing a sweet touch at the end (to neutralize the onions, of course), we enjoyed a large shared serving of Jewish apple cake. More than just dessert, this was a delightful confection of sliced apples, cinnamon and all the right other stuff to make it special. Yes Bubbie, this was more than just a meal. It was an enjoyed memory echoed from my youth. By the way, last week I attended a dinner for 150 catered by Ben & Irv's at a residential community clubhouse nearby. It was amazing. The owner/operator, Lenny Bromberg (who is onsite at most times) and his staff attended to every detail of this "New York, NY" theme party. The food was in abundance throughout the evening, presented handsomely, and non-stop in variety and quality.

There are way too many bad things to say about this place, too many! We went for dinner tonight, as expected the placed as packed but the queue moved fairly well. The waitress (Lexi) was totally ignorant to our party for four. There was some guy walking around asking customers how everything was. Surprise, surprise he never came to us. Probably afraid we would tell him the truth. The stuffed cabbage was tough because it was not cooked enough. The turkey ruben was dry. Gee, could you spare a little Russian dressing?! We all ordered water. It was served to us in juice cups. What is the a reason you cannot give us adult-sized cups? Oh, I heard Lexi nicely apologize to the people behind us for the small cups and explain there were no big cups. She never bothered to explain or apologize to us, yet the people across from us received big cups! We had to ask for pickles. The people next to us had pickles. Pickles are given to customers as soon as they are seated. However, we got a basket of bread, but no bread plates! Then Lexi mysteriously appeared with two boxes at the end of our meal. She was astute enough to know we were going to need only two boxes (four people in our party, but only two boxes needed). She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert, just showed up with the boxes! Oh, and the check! There was a gnat flying around our food while we were eating. If that's not a sign of a clean establishment (sarcasm!) I don't know what is!

Definitely one of the premier Jewish deli's in PA and not too far from the Philly area. These guys have been in business a long time and had the whole place renovated within the past 5-10 years, the best part is that it really makes a difference. So many old-school Jewish deli's (and old restaurants in general) have gone down by the way-side and think they can survive on the business of their 'regulars' without putting extra money into the future of the business. Ben & Irv's gets it, and knows that while their primary customer base is increasing in age, they still haev to produce a quality product and environment to keep them coming and bring in the younger generations as well. That being said, the set-up is really nice with the deli being completely separated from the restaurant with wall so that the patrons of each section aren't on top of one another. The deli case was one of the bigger one's I've seen with an entire section dedicated to meats, one for cheeses, and the last for smoked fish products from NY's Acme Smoked Fish (the best lox in the country, I love the deli's that carry their product AND Philly cream cheese, they make such a good couple). I wasn't starving but I definitely needed a decent-sized breakfast to get me through the day. They have a ton of breakfast options and everyday they do a different omelette-of-the-day with home fries, a bagel/toast and a cup of coffee for $7.95. Pretty good deal to me so I went with the Western Omelette and a bagel. Everything came out in about 5-8 minutes and tasted great. The home fries were particularly good and tasted as if they were made fresh from potatoes in the kitchen. (I doubt they were but wherever they order them from, they were of superior quality in the homefries category). Can't wait to try this place out for lunch and I know I'll get the opportunity as I am in the area from time to time.

This place is NIRVANA!!!!!! Not a Kosher deli, but outta sight Jewish style deli. The food is always fresh and plentiful, so much so that a take home container is pretty much a requirement. Never had a stale piece of rye, or bagel. Never had vegetables that were questionable. All if it looks fresh and appealing. My wife and I went for breakfast on Easter Sunday, also around the time of Passover, and it was quite crowded. They accommodated us easily. And the food was well worth the 30 minute drive. I would love to rent a room there so I could be closer. I think I can safely say that this is my most favorite restaurant this side of the the Atlantic Ocean. The servers are just great (if you read my reviews, I am seriously into great service) and I can't say enough good things about them. If I could eat 3 meals a day here, I would.

Sandwich size was decent, but quality was not equivalent to the price. Service was average. Our waitress scored a 33%...she got 1 of 3 dishes correct. Which happens....but since she took our order by memory....that I find annoying. Also, I'm a little over 40 yrs old...and I was by far the youngest patron there. (By a good 15 + years). Overall, been there so many times, I would go again.

Anytime I'm craving a good pastrami on rye or just a diner style grilled cheese this is the place. There is so much to say about B&I, yet so little needs to. Just know if this place has lasted 60+ years and still has come out on top, there is a reason for it. If you're every in the Huntington Valley area and want to experience one of the finer deli's in the northeast region of the United States, look no further than the classic Ben & Irvs.

Been here a couples times now and originally I was looking for a good kosher deli for a pastrami sandwich. Pastrami is really really good. The place is packed all the time, that's my only complaint. I've had egg Benedict there twice which is also very good.

Needed a pastrami fix, so I went to Ben and Irvs. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered their NY Pastrami, their lean in house made pastrami. Very salty, no pepper on the outside. Defining flavors were mace, all spice. The portion was warm, generous without being obscene like Carnegie Deli in NYC. The rye bread (no seeds) was sub par and fell apart with the sandwich. Accompanying the sandwich was a bowl of pickles (one tomato, on dill, one half dill and one phallic shaped thing that was paler than my own Wasp skin. Chips were wise potato chips in a bag. All this for 10 dollars. Next.

This place is pretty decent. It is a Jewish Style Deli, but not kosher. The food is good and the portions are huge. The menu is insanely large and difficult to navigate. The service is adequate, but goes down hill as more customers fill the seats. The place is clean, and the decor is average. I would say this place is very average.

First, be prepared if going at a traditional meal time for a crazy crowd!! This restaurant is very popular in the area and while the wait wasn't too bad, the line was out the door on a Saturday afternoon. The menu here is extensive and I love that they have 5 or 6 soups to choose from (I'm a soup junky). I had a simple grilled cheese, and it was pretty darn cheesy. My husband had a rueben and he was very pleased with it. Overall a great place to stop in for a lunch - and probably a dinner as well.

You can't get real food Jewish food anywhere else. Not in the Philly area. My husband had matzoh ball soup with noodles. Very tasty. Always. I could smell the onions on this thing 10 feet away but it was delicious. I then moved onto the open faced pastrami on rye with melted swiss, cole slaw and russian dressing. I have no idea how they got the pastrami so thin. It was to die for. This was possibly the best sandwich I've had in 2010. On one of my prior visits, I ordered the Jewish hoagie. There must have been about five pounds of cold cuts packed into this sucker but damn was it good. Don't miss the pastries on the way out. Their Jewish apple cake is a thing of beauty.

Brought my 6 month old daughter here not too long ago... had the matza ball soup, potato pancakes, and a corned beef special (basically a reuben) sandwich. I liked it all and so did she! She loved the soup and the applesauce from the potato pancakes. I was also a fan of all the food. The sandwich was big and packed with meat (although I could've enjoyed a little more sauce and slaw), the potato pancakes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the matza ball soup was tasty. The waiter was also very friendly and very chatty (perhaps a little too much so!) The selection is also gigantic as another reviewer mentioned. My only gripes are that it took forever to pay at the single register, and that as good as the food was, it was somewhat unremarkable. However, that does not stop Ben and Irvs from getting my recommendation!

Well in town for a few days and this was the start to eating my way around the area. I have to say...I wish more places were like this! The waitresses were most helpful. Always reliable Jewish deli. They have a huge menu - ranging from breakfast foods to deli to hot sandwiches and entrees to desserts and bakes goods. Definitely a great place for breakfasts and early bird dinners, though it can get really crowded and sometimes there is a long line. The tables too closed together, service people act frantic and bumps into you while you are sipping your coffee... I ordered corn beef sandwich and I have tasted better ones elsewhere. Too much fat in it as I asked for lean ones. I guess they do not really care for your specific instructions on how you want your food to be made. I had asked in a very clear way that I want LEAN corn beef and cut away the fat. Nope... they served me fatty side of corn beef.... Left with a spilled coffee on my shirt and upset stomach.... I could have sworn I already wrote a review for this place... but I guess it's typical of Ben & Irv's that it slipped my mind! The same cigarette-roughened voice greets you today that greeted you 10 years ago. It's kind of nice; they are efficient. I've never really gotten food other than omelettes here; it seems a bit overpriced from what I can see, but for solid, unmemorable feta cheese omeletets and hash browns in the suburbs that will get you seated quickly even with long lines, Ben & Irv's can't be beat. This place is NIRVANA!!!!!! Not a Kosher deli, but outta sight Jewish style deli. The food is always fresh and plentiful, so much so that a take home container is pretty much a requirement. Never had a stale piece of rye, or bagel. Never had vegetables that were questionable. All if it looks fresh and appealing. My wife and I went for breakfast on Easter Sunday, also around the time of Passover, and it was quite crowded. They accommodated us easily. And the food was well worth the 30 minute drive. I have been in Ben & Irv's a couple of times, and its a pretty good deli type place. Normally when I got eggs when I was there, which were fairly decent. Eggs are pretty hard to screw up, but they didn't seem to have anything special to them. The bagel I got with it didn't taste too fresh either. If I want to go to a place to get eggs, I will just stick to a diner instead.

I've taken my grandmother here for breakfast every time I'm in town. We get a nice Jewish plate of smoked fish, with bagels and all the accouterments. Arlene has been our server for years and she's a hoot! I have never eaten lunch here but I can tell you the kippered salmon and the belly lox are the best I have ever had. Their fish comes from Acme in Brooklyn and it's fresh and tasty.

This is the only place near Northeast Philadelphia where I can get good smoked fish and Jewish style foods in general. It's a clean place with excellent service. It's a little pricey but worth it!

Yummy! This popular diner/deli has some really good food. Their lox and bagel platter is delish, and their white fish is out of this world. My husband & I visited for breakfast and were not disappointed. There was a bit of a line when we arrived, which we were expecting on a Saturday morning, but we were seated quickly and the wait staff was efficient and friendly. Ben and Irv's is the place to go if you're looking for standard but well-prepared and delicious deli fare. It tends to get crowded during the lunch and dinner hours, but they do have a take-out options and a deli counter up front featuring deli meats, cheeses, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, and other various selections. The food also takes a while to come out, but in the end it's all worth it.

Have only been to B&I's for breakfast, but we love it and make it a regular spot on weekends. Go early, as there is usually wait if you get their after 10:00 a.m. or so. I conquered "The Stack", which is a corned beef special with pastrami, but rather than on bread, it's served open face on top of two potato latkes. This thing was out of control good! The wife enjoyed her bacon chicken avocado salad very much. You'll notice that the prices are moderate to high. However, you are paying for gigantic portions of freshly made everything! Bonnie was the most pleasant, genuine server I've encountered in a long, long time. She ran up to me as I was paying to give me my sunglasses that I'd left on the table. Thanks again, Bonnie!! So, Internet...Ben and Irv's is an A+ and they'll be seeing us again and again and again!

This is a great location to have a restaurant inside a strip mall. Desided to try this place for the first time, for breakfast. When you walk in to the right you have the bakery and other kind of different lunch meats and foods you can get to go. And keep walking down and to the left you will see the dinning area to sit at. When arriving to sit down. It's not hard to notice that the lighting is as bright as it could be. So don't worry you will be enjoying your food with plenty of light around you. The menu portion is huge for breakfast and took me a little bit to desided on what I was getting. I got my usual the 2 eggs with meat. And coffee. The eggs, home fries and big peice of scrapple was good and so was coffee. And they give you toast with it and put butter and jelly on side. So great to have 2 options on if you want eaither one. The service was great. Waitress was so nice back at the table every 5 min. Asking how everything Was and if I need refill. Good waitressing is always a great thing that early in the morning. I look forward to coming back hear again.

When it comes to breakfast and lunch there's no better. I often have breakfast at Ben and Irv's in the winter due to my work schedule and I am never disappointed. The hostess and waitstaff are exceptionally pleasant and look for every opportunity to meet your needs. Their portion sizes are tremendous for the price. And you can order things to go while you're eating so that you have delicious food throughout the week. Their soups are outstanding. They also make it a fabulous Reuben sandwich. They seem to always have the freshest meats and breads which makes the experience that much more pleasurable. Bravo I say bravo.

After our monthly JRA deliveries, we customarily brunch at B&I. Although a little pricier than some of the other nearby breakfast places, one gets value in terms of the quality of the food, relative deliciousness of the coffee, general cleanliness of the place and the waitstaff who call you "hon." We almost always start on the specials page, which has a couple of family favs: The nova and bagel plate and the Biggee, which is a patron's own personal smorgasbord of eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast or bagel and home fries. It truly is enough for two, although the menfolk have been known to clean their plates. The Mister is also a fan of B&I's omelets but not thrilled with the scrapple (wrong brand and not cooked quite right). B&I also is a solid destination for a quick bite at dinner. Its weekday dinner specials compare favorably in price and amenities to diner offerings. In our rotation are the chopped salad, 1/2 chicken, and corned beef sandwich. My favorite part of a B&I dinner, however, is the complementary pickle bowl. The half-sours are a personal fav. The friendly, energetic vibe at B&I also is invigorating. B&I has a loyal clientele whose paths regularly cross at this suburban Grand Central Station. We love seeing and hearing the cross-restaurant greetings. Note that some prices are a bit higher on the weekends. Get on the e-mailing list for weekly specials and discounts.

I bought a Groupon for this place as I saw it had some great reviews and I'm always up for a great Jewish deli! As we went to Ben and Irv's, I experienced my typical dilemma - smoked fish or smoked meat. So I just couldn't help myself, and did both. I ordered a fish platter with whitefish salad and baked salmon (kippered salmon). It was fantastic. Like just as good as Brent's (Brent's is the best deli in L.A.). Whitefish not too fishy, just the right amount of fishy. Baked salmon perfectly smoked and soft. The cream cheese was standard which should have been whipped, but still good. The platter also had a nice amount of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers and looked really nice (I took a picture). Also ordered iced coffee which was surprisingly delicious. Iced coffee isn't usually something that I notice unless it is really good or really bad, but this iced coffee was reeeeally good. Service was very good and did not get the typical hassle when using Groupons or other coupons/vouchers and other restaurants. I was stuffed after that fish platter, so I strolled to the deli counter and got a few things to try later at home. I picked up some corned beef, whitefish salad (it was terrific), some excellent day old rye bread, and tuna salad. It was not cheap (except for the bread), but it was well worth it. This will be my go to deli from now on and looking forward to bringing guests here when they come to visit.

I absolutely love Ben and Irvs! It's a great Jewish deli (but not Kosher/Kosher style- keep in mind) There are so many different options for food. An extensive kids menu, options for people watching what they eat (and lots of options for people who aren't), and an amazing breakfast menu. The portions are quite large. Try the matzoball soup or mushroom barley soup for an appetizer. Service is hit or miss as far as friendliness goes, but I've never had to wait a while for my food. Besides, you get free pickles to snack on while you wait! Yes, you'll have to wait if you come on a weekend, especially for breakfast/brunch. The place isn't huge, and it's very popular.

This was my second time coming to Ben & Irv's, my girlfriend grandparents are jewish and they took her here as a little girl and it brings back fond memories for her. So she suggested we go and get lunch. I have to say this is probably one of my favorite Jewish Delis, the food is authentic and is made just the way I would expected it to be, great! I orderd the Matzah Ball soup with a HUGE matzah ball in the middle, it was great! Also for an app my girlfriend and I shared a full order of Potato Pancakes, served wit ha side of sour cream and apple sauce, and wow they were big and we both wanted seconds. For lunch I ordered the Grilled Chicken Avocado Wrap, it was very delicious and I would also recommend to give it a try. They serve pickles to each table to munch on while you wait for your food, they're authentic Jewsh pickles which were amazing, if you love pickles! Breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, Ben & Irv's serves up a good Jewish meal. FOOD A typical deli, lots of choices and the quality is pretty good. Breakfast has a good selection with good portion sizes and good quality. Lunch is also a pretty good deal. SERVICE Usually the service is pretty on point at Ben & Irv's. The waitresses are usually older, but friendly and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. ATMOSPHERE They've updated the place over the years, but it still has the same feel to it. Just a big room with a ton of booths, some tables. Nothing fancy about it, just trying to cram as many seating options into an area as possible. PRICE The pricing is reasonable. Though I was mildly interested in my wife's Reuben which was open faced, grilled to perfection w just the right amount of cheese. Food is good and fresh. The waitress we had on this visit was super. I asked for something not on the menu and she was super about it. She made sure the cook knew exactly what I wanted and then made sure after I got my sandwich that it was what I wanted. Super great service. The prices are a bit high, but in fairness to that, it's worth it. You get a lot and the food is fresh. Their salads, deli meats, and baked items are what I have had the most of.

As it has been mentioned before, this is your classic deli joint. It is extremely popular although I'd have to say it seems slightly over rated (from my humble opinion). The decor is average. It's unique if anything. But it's nothing beautiful and it's cramped for the amount of bodies they move through. There is quite a lot of older people who were there, both in terms of patrons and employees. There's nothing wrong with that, but it just goes to show who the demographic seems to be geared towards. The menu is absolutely enormous. This is either good or bad. It's not easy to read completely and it's a bit hard to completely grasp everything. We had a great pastrami sandwich. I personally didn't find the matzo ball soup to be anything special. Generally, this is a nice place to go for deli food. The decor is average. The service is fair.

Fountain sodas are great too -- not as great as a McDonald's fountain soda but not far behind. The hot open face turkey sandwich is amazing! The strangest thing is my brother orders a chicken parm and it's still good... Shows the true reach of the place. On the way out, grab some cookies and pretzels. I had the Corned Beef Special recently and was very disappointed. Usually you get the best sandwiches from a deli. It had a lot of mayonnaise and the Russian dressing was almost invisible. Also, had the chicken noodle soup, again disappointment. No chicken in the soup, only celery, carrots and noodles. Don't think I will be going there again!

Everything here is absolutely stellar! Open faced pastrami sandwich is divine, matzoh ball soup is wonderful, and their cheesecake and apple cake are phenomenal. If I didn't want to get one of everything on the menu, I would eat here more often, with that being said it is a tad bit pricey but for the quality of food you are getting, it is worth the price !

Awesomeness! Friendly staff and Fantastic food. The best Extra Lean Corned Beef Special on seedless rye ever and I sincerely mean EVER!!! No place comes even close to the quality and consistency. It's sizeable, lean, and moist due to the help of the 1000 island dressing. To enjoy bite after bite without chewing on any grizzle edged fat is a great thing. For breakfast the nova lox (not as salty as regular lox) on an untoasted plain bagel was terrific. The sandwich came with onion, cucumber, cream cheese, and lettuce. I chose to stack my lox ontop of kippered salmon (paid extra) embedded it in my cream cheese & capped with a crisp cucumber slice on top. An added plus was the Wild Cherry Pepsi available on tap. The only disappointment (and an area to certainly approve upon) were the pickles given at the table. At first sight they look crisp and hydrated but wait....they dehydrate quickly and are often on the softer side. A big fail! If they would build a pickle bar it would be a slam dunking success! (fresh pickles please) Oh...for wishful thinking. Overall though it's a great place to eat and a 5 star recommend!

Here at the moment and very upset with this place. No matter what my husband and I do we are always told we didnt order it right. I'm sorry but appetizers are just that if I want what I ordered with my meal I would say so. I had just gotten my soup and my meal was right behind, the waitress putting my soup on my table. Idk but I really am not going to eat a cold meal or let you keep my meal hot for me when theres cold coleslaw on it. Wake up you have done nothing but gone down hill in the ten years I have lived in HV. I actually prefer wasting gas and time driving to Harold's New York Style Deli in NJ at least I know my meal is right each and every time. Shame that I had to go this far and write a review since management and owners don't care. Also be careful they allow all workers to sit in dining area on break..not a very pretty site nor do I wish to sit or eat near the workers. This is for the fact that I was a waitress for 15 years and do believe in proper etiquette in a restaurant of any sort. I do not wish to see the workers chit chatting away instead of doing their jobs. For my husband to ask for a refill and wait 15 minutes for one is insane. Their was barely any customers so whats the problem. People are seeing now that tips are not given well this is why I won't give 20 percent, the server doesn't deserve it.

I've been on a Jewish deli kick lately, and I'd been hearing about B&I's for the longest time from family, so I decided to make the trip out here for lunch. It was a very good experience all around. First off, the space was really not what I was expecting. It looked a lot like a standard diner, but this place was packed. I think we got one of the last tables, and it was like 2pm on a Saturday! The recommendation that I got from my sister in law was to try the matzo ball soup at all costs, so I did. I have to say it was exceptional. It really rivals my fav matzo ball soup, which is at Pumpernick's. Then I went with a pastrami sandwich, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I probably should have gotten something on it (I just got pastrami on rye), but even in its most austere form, it was a great sandwich. The service was friendly and relaxed, and he did a great job of keeping our glasses full. Definitely recommend.

born and raised in the area. sadly, deli in philly has lost a lot of ground to new york... and even new jersey if you count harold's. sandwiches are small and made to look big by thinly slicing the meat. the quality of the "homemade" meats is mediocre... the best thing here is the mushroom barley soup. i guess compared to steve stein's famous deli, the competition is on par with being overpriced for quality and quantity. someone needs to raise the ladder because both places are complacent.

There used to be some competition for the Jewish deli biz in Jenkintown but tempus fugit. There still are a few places in Northeast yelp.com/search?find_des… but in the burbs it's Ben and Irv's. It's a modern deli with a case full of high cal high taste stuff they cut to order, loads of great baked goods and a huge deli/diner menu that features ads that give it the look of a magazine - not sure how I feel about that but hey the place makes up for it. Ask for seltzer and you don't have to tell them how to get it from the post mix machine, a mighty plethora of culinary choices from the semi healthy to the very bad. Recently we had breakfast here - my western omelet was fine nothing great nothing awful, i subbed fruit for the home fries for a buck and I declined the bagel for some nice rye toast. My wife had pancakes with a side of turkey bacon - the bacon was great, however the pancakes - at perhaps 1.30 on a Saturday after the breakfast chef may have gone home - were Jewish deli style - more is better but not this time - just a bit too thick on the pancakes...also kraft tubs of syrup rather then real maple syrup but just 5ish bucks for the plate of 3. Service is fine, and the room is very comfortable and clean. It's a good diner thats not Michel's with authentic Jewish flavor, and individually owned style.

I've eaten at deli's for many years coast to coast. This is one of the finest I've found. Ben & Irv's is the go-to spot in Huntington Valley, PA for all the comfort foods you've been missing. The menu is extensive, and the traditional Jewish-style fare is presented with the feeling of "Bubbie" inspiring (and perhaps supervising) the kitchen. My trio stopped in for lunch today and enjoyed a wonderful fish brunch platter which included lox (sliced right), whitefish salad (ordered chunky style, and sooo good), kippered salmon (pink and moist), chopped herring (a favorite of mine) and assorted fresh cut veggies. It was served with a choice of fresh bagels, cream cheese, and bottomless cups of freshly brewed coffee. Needing a sweet touch at the end (to neutralize the onions, of course), we enjoyed a large shared serving of Jewish apple cake. More than just dessert, this was a delightful confection of sliced apples, cinnamon and all the right other stuff to make it special. Yes Bubbie, this was more than just a meal. It was an enjoyed memory echoed from my youth. By the way, last week I attended a dinner for 150 catered by Ben & Irv's at a residential community clubhouse nearby. It was amazing. The owner/operator, Lenny Bromberg (who is onsite at most times) and his staff attended to every detail of this "New York, NY" theme party. The food was in abundance throughout the evening, presented handsomely, and non-stop in variety and quality.

There are way too many bad things to say about this place, too many! We went for dinner tonight, as expected the placed as packed but the queue moved fairly well. The waitress (Lexi) was totally ignorant to our party for four. There was some guy walking around asking customers how everything was. Surprise, surprise he never came to us. Probably afraid we would tell him the truth. The stuffed cabbage was tough because it was not cooked enough. The turkey ruben was dry. Gee, could you spare a little Russian dressing?! We all ordered water. It was served to us in juice cups. What is the a reason you cannot give us adult-sized cups? Oh, I heard Lexi nicely apologize to the people behind us for the small cups and explain there were no big cups. She never bothered to explain or apologize to us, yet the people across from us received big cups! We had to ask for pickles. The people next to us had pickles. Pickles are given to customers as soon as they are seated. However, we got a basket of bread, but no bread plates! Then Lexi mysteriously appeared with two boxes at the end of our meal. She was astute enough to know we were going to need only two boxes (four people in our party, but only two boxes needed). She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert, just showed up with the boxes! Oh, and the check! There was a gnat flying around our food while we were eating. If that's not a sign of a clean establishment (sarcasm!) I don't know what is!

Definitely one of the premier Jewish deli's in PA and not too far from the Philly area. These guys have been in business a long time and had the whole place renovated within the past 5-10 years, the best part is that it really makes a difference. So many old-school Jewish deli's (and old restaurants in general) have gone down by the way-side and think they can survive on the business of their 'regulars' without putting extra money into the future of the business. Ben & Irv's gets it, and knows that while their primary customer base is increasing in age, they still haev to produce a quality product and environment to keep them coming and bring in the younger generations as well. That being said, the set-up is really nice with the deli being completely separated from the restaurant with wall so that the patrons of each section aren't on top of one another. The deli case was one of the bigger one's I've seen with an entire section dedicated to meats, one for cheeses, and the last for smoked fish products from NY's Acme Smoked Fish (the best lox in the country, I love the deli's that carry their product AND Philly cream cheese, they make such a good couple). I wasn't starving but I definitely needed a decent-sized breakfast to get me through the day. They have a ton of breakfast options and everyday they do a different omelette-of-the-day with home fries, a bagel/toast and a cup of coffee for $7.95. Pretty good deal to me so I went with the Western Omelette and a bagel. Everything came out in about 5-8 minutes and tasted great. The home fries were particularly good and tasted as if they were made fresh from potatoes in the kitchen. (I doubt they were but wherever they order them from, they were of superior quality in the homefries category). Can't wait to try this place out for lunch and I know I'll get the opportunity as I am in the area from time to time.

My wife and I ate lunch here for the first time and we loved it! I conquered "The Stack", which is a corned beef special with pastrami, but rather than on bread, it's served open face on top of two potato latkes. This thing was out of control good! The wife enjoyed her bacon chicken avocado salad very much. You'll notice that the prices are moderate to high. However, you are paying for gigantic portions of freshly made everything! Bonnie was the most pleasant, genuine server I've encountered in a long, long time. She ran up to me as I was paying to give me my sunglasses that I'd left on the table. Thanks again, Bonnie!! This is a great location to have a restaurant inside a strip mall. Desided to try this place for the first time, for breakfast. When you walk in to the right you have the bakery and other kind of different lunch meats and foods you can get to go. And keep walking down and to the left you will see the dinning area to sit at. When arriving to sit down. It's not hard to notice that the lighting is as bright as it could be. So don't worry you will be enjoying your food with plenty of light around you. The menu portion is huge for breakfast and took me a little bit to desided on what I was getting. I got my usual the 2 eggs with meat. And coffee. The eggs, home fries and big peice of scrapple was good and so was coffee. And they give you toast with it and put butter and jelly on side. So great to have 2 options on if you want eaither one. The service was great. Waitress was so nice back at the table every 5 min. Asking how everything Was and if I need refill. Good waitressing is always a great thing that early in the morning. I look forward to coming back hear again.

When it comes to breakfast and lunch there's no better. I often have breakfast at Ben and Irv's in the winter due to my work schedule and I am never disappointed. The hostess and waitstaff are exceptionally pleasant and look for every opportunity to meet your needs. Their portion sizes are tremendous for the price. And you can order things to go while you're eating so that you have delicious food throughout the week. Their soups are outstanding. They also make it a fabulous Reuben sandwich. They seem to always have the freshest meats and breads which makes the experience that much more pleasurable. Bravo I say bravo.

After our monthly JRA deliveries, we customarily brunch at B&I. Although a little pricier than some of the other nearby breakfast places, one gets value in terms of the quality of the food, relative deliciousness of the coffee, general cleanliness of the place and the waitstaff who call you "hon." We almost always start on the specials page, which has a couple of family favs: The nova and bagel plate and the Biggee, which is a patron's own personal smorgasbord of eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast or bagel and home fries. It truly is enough for two, although the menfolk have been known to clean their plates. The Mister is also a fan of B&I's omelets but not thrilled with the scrapple (wrong brand and not cooked quite right). B&I also is a solid destination for a quick bite at dinner. Its weekday dinner specials compare favorably in price and amenities to diner offerings. In our rotation are the chopped salad, 1/2 chicken, and corned beef sandwich. My favorite part of a B&I dinner, however, is the complementary pickle bowl. The half-sours are a personal fav. The friendly, energetic vibe at B&I also is invigorating. B&I has a loyal clientele whose paths regularly cross at this suburban Grand Central Station. We love seeing and hearing the cross-restaurant greetings. I bought a Groupon for this place as I saw it had some great reviews and I'm always up for a great Jewish deli! As we went to Ben and Irv's, I experienced my typical dilemma - smoked fish or smoked meat. So I just couldn't help myself, and did both. I ordered a fish platter with whitefish salad and baked salmon (kippered salmon). It was fantastic. Like just as good as Brent's (Brent's is the best deli in L.A.). Whitefish not too fishy, just the right amount of fishy. Baked salmon perfectly smoked and soft. The cream cheese was standard which should have been whipped, but still good. The platter also had a nice amount of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers and looked really nice (I took a picture). Also ordered iced coffee which was surprisingly delicious. Iced coffee isn't usually something that I notice unless it is really good or really bad, but this iced coffee was reeeeally good. Service was very good and did not get the typical hassle when using Groupons or other coupons/vouchers and other restaurants. I was stuffed after that fish platter, so I strolled to the deli counter and got a few things to try later at home. I picked up some corned beef, whitefish salad (it was terrific), some excellent day old rye bread, and tuna salad. It was not cheap (except for the bread), but it was well worth it. This will be my go to deli from now on and looking forward to bringing guests here when they come to visit.

I absolutely love Ben and Irvs! It's a great Jewish deli (but not Kosher/Kosher style- keep in mind) There are so many different options for food. An extensive kids menu, options for people watching what they eat (and lots of options for people who aren't), and an amazing breakfast menu. The portions are quite large. Try the matzoball soup or mushroom barley soup for an appetizer. Service is hit or miss as far as friendliness goes, but I've never had to wait a while for my food. Besides, you get free pickles to snack on while you wait! Yes, you'll have to wait if you come on a weekend, especially for breakfast/brunch. The place isn't huge, and it's very popular.

Food is good and fresh. The waitress we had on this visit was super. I asked for something not on the menu and she was super about it. She made sure the cook knew exactly what I wanted and then made sure after I got my sandwich that it was what I wanted. Super great service. The prices are a bit high, but in fairness to that, it's worth it. You get a lot and the food is fresh. Their salads, deli meats, and baked items are what I have had the most of.

As it has been mentioned before, this is your classic deli joint. It is extremely popular although I'd have to say it seems slightly over rated (from my humble opinion). The decor is average. It's unique if anything. But it's nothing beautiful and it's cramped for the amount of bodies they move through. There is quite a lot of older people who were there, both in terms of patrons and employees. There's nothing wrong with that, but it just goes to show who the demographic seems to be geared towards. The menu is absolutely enormous. This is either good or bad. It's not easy to read completely and it's a bit hard to completely grasp everything. We had a great pastrami sandwich. I personally didn't find the matzo ball soup to be anything special. Generally, this is a nice place to go for deli food. The decor is average. The service is fair.

I had the Corned Beef Special recently and was very disappointed. Usually you get the best sandwiches from a deli. It had a lot of mayonnaise and the Russian dressing was almost invisible. Also, had the chicken noodle soup, again disappointment. No chicken in the soup, only celery, carrots and noodles. Don't think I will be going there again!

Awesomeness! Friendly staff and Fantastic food. The best Extra Lean Corned Beef Special on seedless rye ever and I sincerely mean EVER!!! No place comes even close to the quality and consistency. It's sizeable, lean, and moist due to the help of the 1000 island dressing. To enjoy bite after bite without chewing on any grizzle edged fat is a great thing. For breakfast the nova lox (not as salty as regular lox) on an untoasted plain bagel was terrific. The sandwich came with onion, cucumber, cream cheese, and lettuce. I chose to stack my lox ontop of kippered salmon (paid extra) embedded it in my cream cheese & capped with a crisp cucumber slice on top. An added plus was the Wild Cherry Pepsi available on tap. The only disappointment (and an area to certainly approve upon) were the pickles given at the table. At first sight they look crisp and hydrated but wait....they dehydrate quickly and are often on the softer side. A big fail! If they would build a pickle bar it would be a slam dunking success! (fresh pickles please) Oh...for wishful thinking. Overall though it's a great place to eat and a 5 star recommend!

This place is pretty decent. It is a Jewish Style Deli, but not kosher. The food is good and the portions are huge. The menu is insanely large and difficult to navigate. The service is adequate, but goes down hill as more customers fill the seats. The place is clean, and the decor is average. I would say this place is very average.

Here at the moment and very upset with this place. No matter what my husband and I do we are always told we didnt order it right. I'm sorry but appetizers are just that if I want what I ordered with my meal I would say so. I had just gotten my soup and my meal was right behind, the waitress putting my soup on my table. Idk but I really am not going to eat a cold meal or let you keep my meal hot for me when theres cold coleslaw on it. Wake up you have done nothing but gone down hill in the ten years I have lived in HV. I actually prefer wasting gas and time driving to Harold's New York Style Deli in NJ at least I know my meal is right each and every time. Shame that I had to go this far and write a review since management and owners don't care. Also be careful they allow all workers to sit in dining area on break..not a very pretty site nor do I wish to sit or eat near the workers. This is for the fact that I was a waitress for 15 years and do believe in proper etiquette in a restaurant of any sort. I do not wish to see the workers chit chatting away instead of doing their jobs. For my husband to ask for a refill and wait 15 minutes for one is insane. Their was barely any customers so whats the problem. People are seeing now that tips are not given well this is why I won't give 20 percent, the server doesn't deserve it.

I've been on a Jewish deli kick lately, and I'd been hearing about B&I's for the longest time from family, so I decided to make the trip out here for lunch. It was a very good experience all around. First off, the space was really not what I was expecting. It looked a lot like a standard diner, but this place was packed. I think we got one of the last tables, and it was like 2pm on a Saturday! The recommendation that I got from my sister in law was to try the matzo ball soup at all costs, so I did. I have to say it was exceptional. It really rivals my fav matzo ball soup, which is at Pumpernick's. Then I went with a pastrami sandwich, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I probably should have gotten something on it (I just got pastrami on rye), but even in its most austere form, it was a great sandwich. The service was friendly and relaxed, and he did a great job of keeping our glasses full. Definitely recommend.

born and raised in the area. sadly, deli in philly has lost a lot of ground to new york... and even new jersey if you count harold's. sandwiches are small and made to look big by thinly slicing the meat. the quality of the "homemade" meats is mediocre... the best thing here is the mushroom barley soup. i guess compared to steve stein's famous deli, the competition is on par with being overpriced for quality and quantity. someone needs to raise the ladder because both places are complacent.

There used to be some competition for the Jewish deli biz in Jenkintown but tempus fugit. There still are a few places in Northeast yelp.com/search?find_des… but in the burbs it's Ben and Irv's. It's a modern deli with a case full of high cal high taste stuff they cut to order, loads of great baked goods and a huge deli/diner menu that features ads that give it the look of a magazine - not sure how I feel about that but hey the place makes up for it. Ask for seltzer and you don't have to tell them how to get it from the post mix machine, a mighty plethora of culinary choices from the semi healthy to the very bad. Recently we had breakfast here - my western omelet was fine nothing great nothing awful, i subbed fruit for the home fries for a buck and I declined the bagel for some nice rye toast. My wife had pancakes with a side of turkey bacon - the bacon was great, however the pancakes - at perhaps 1.30 on a Saturday after the breakfast chef may have gone home - were Jewish deli style - more is better but not this time - just a bit too thick on the pancakes...also kraft tubs of syrup rather then real maple syrup but just 5ish bucks for the plate of 3. Service is fine, and the room is very comfortable and clean. It's a good diner thats not Michel's with authentic Jewish flavor, and individually owned style.

I've eaten at deli's for many years coast to coast. This is one of the finest I've found. Ben & Irv's is the go-to spot in Huntington Valley, PA for all the comfort foods you've been missing. The menu is extensive, and the traditional Jewish-style fare is presented with the feeling of "Bubbie" inspiring (and perhaps supervising) the kitchen. My trio stopped in for lunch today and enjoyed a wonderful fish brunch platter which included lox (sliced right), whitefish salad (ordered chunky style, and sooo good), kippered salmon (pink and moist), chopped herring (a favorite of mine) and assorted fresh cut veggies. It was served with a choice of fresh bagels, cream cheese, and bottomless cups of freshly brewed coffee. Needing a sweet touch at the end (to neutralize the onions, of course), we enjoyed a large shared serving of Jewish apple cake. More than just dessert, this was a delightful confection of sliced apples, cinnamon and all the right other stuff to make it special. Yes Bubbie, this was more than just a meal. It was an enjoyed memory echoed from my youth. By the way, last week I attended a dinner for 150 catered by Ben & Irv's at a residential community clubhouse nearby. It was amazing. The owner/operator, Lenny Bromberg (who is onsite at most times) and his staff attended to every detail of this "New York, NY" theme party. The food was in abundance throughout the evening, presented handsomely, and non-stop in variety and quality.

There are way too many bad things to say about this place, too many! We went for dinner tonight, as expected the placed as packed but the queue moved fairly well. The waitress (Lexi) was totally ignorant to our party for four. There was some guy walking around asking customers how everything was. Surprise, surprise he never came to us. Probably afraid we would tell him the truth. The stuffed cabbage was tough because it was not cooked enough. The turkey ruben was dry. Gee, could you spare a little Russian dressing?! We all ordered water. It was served to us in juice cups. What is the a reason you cannot give us adult-sized cups? Oh, I heard Lexi nicely apologize to the people behind us for the small cups and explain there were no big cups. She never bothered to explain or apologize to us, yet the people across from us received big cups! We had to ask for pickles. The people next to us had pickles. Pickles are given to customers as soon as they are seated. However, we got a basket of bread, but no bread plates! Then Lexi mysteriously appeared with two boxes at the end of our meal. She was astute enough to know we were going to need only two boxes (four people in our party, but only two boxes needed). She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert, just showed up with the boxes! Oh, and the check! There was a gnat flying around our food while we were eating. If that's not a sign of a clean establishment (sarcasm!) I don't know what is!

Definitely one of the premier Jewish deli's in PA and not too far from the Philly area. These guys have been in business a long time and had the whole place renovated within the past 5-10 years, the best part is that it really makes a difference. So many old-school Jewish deli's (and old restaurants in general) have gone down by the way-side and think they can survive on the business of their 'regulars' without putting extra money into the future of the business. Ben & Irv's gets it, and knows that while their primary customer base is increasing in age, they still haev to produce a quality product and environment to keep them coming and bring in the younger generations as well. That being said, the set-up is really nice with the deli being completely separated from the restaurant with wall so that the patrons of each section aren't on top of one another. The deli case was one of the bigger one's I've seen with an entire section dedicated to meats, one for cheeses, and the last for smoked fish products from NY's Acme Smoked Fish (the best lox in the country, I love the deli's that carry their product AND Philly cream cheese, they make such a good couple). I wasn't starving but I definitely needed a decent-sized breakfast to get me through the day. They have a ton of breakfast options and everyday they do a different omelette-of-the-day with home fries, a bagel/toast and a cup of coffee for $7.95. Pretty good deal to me so I went with the Western Omelette and a bagel. Everything came out in about 5-8 minutes and tasted great. The home fries were particularly good and tasted as if they were made fresh from potatoes in the kitchen. (I doubt they were but wherever they order them from, they were of superior quality in the homefries category). Can't wait to try this place out for lunch and I know I'll get the opportunity as I am in the area from time to time.

This place is NIRVANA!!!!!! Not a Kosher deli, but outta sight Jewish style deli. The food is always fresh and plentiful, so much so that a take home container is pretty much a requirement. Never had a stale piece of rye, or bagel. Never had vegetables that were questionable. All if it looks fresh and appealing. My wife and I went for breakfast on Easter Sunday, also around the time of Passover, and it was quite crowded. They accommodated us easily. And the food was well worth the 30 minute drive. I would love to rent a room there so I could be closer. I think I can safely say that this is my most favorite restaurant this side of the the Atlantic Ocean. The servers are just great (if you read my reviews, I am seriously into great service) and I can't say enough good things about them. If I could eat 3 meals a day here, I would.

Sandwich size was decent, but quality was not equivalent to the price. Service was average. Our waitress scored a 33%...she got 1 of 3 dishes correct. Which happens....but since she took our order by memory....that I find annoying. Also, I'm a little over 40 yrs old...and I was by far the youngest patron there. (By a good 15 + years). Overall, been there so many times, I would go again.

Anytime I'm craving a good pastrami on rye or just a diner style grilled cheese this is the place. There is so much to say about B&I, yet so little needs to. Just know if this place has lasted 60+ years and still has come out on top, there is a reason for it. If you're every in the Huntington Valley area and want to experience one of the finer deli's in the northeast region of the United States, look no further than the classic Ben & Irvs.

Needed a pastrami fix, so I went to Ben and Irvs. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered their NY Pastrami, their lean in house made pastrami. Very salty, no pepper on the outside. Defining flavors were mace, all spice. The portion was warm, generous without being obscene like Carnegie Deli in NYC. The rye bread (no seeds) was sub par and fell apart with the sandwich. Accompanying the sandwich was a bowl of pickles (one tomato, on dill, one half dill and one phallic shaped thing that was paler than my own Wasp skin. Chips were wise potato chips in a bag. All this for 10 dollars. Next.

First, be prepared if going at a traditional meal time for a crazy crowd!! This restaurant is very popular in the area and while the wait wasn't too bad, the line was out the door on a Saturday afternoon. The menu here is extensive and I love that they have 5 or 6 soups to choose from (I'm a soup junky). I had a simple grilled cheese, and it was pretty darn cheesy. My husband had a rueben and he was very pleased with it. Overall a great place to stop in for a lunch - and probably a dinner as well.

Ever head into the Cheesecake Factory (perish the thought) and think "my, this menu just isn't long enough." Well, Ben & Irv will blow your mind. This place is a hidden gem in Montgomery County. Kind of a cross between a diner and Jewish deli, the food and staff fail to disappoint. My last gastronomic foray here had me starting off with a potato knish. I could smell the onions on this thing 10 feet away but it was delicious. I then moved onto the open faced pastrami on rye with melted swiss, cole slaw and russian dressing. I have no idea how they got the pastrami so thin. It was to die for. This was possibly the best sandwich I've had in 2010. On one of my prior visits, I ordered the Jewish hoagie. There must have been about five pounds of cold cuts packed into this sucker but damn was it good. Don't miss the pastries on the way out. Their Jewish apple cake is a thing of beauty.

Brought my 6 month old daughter here not too long ago... had the matza ball soup, potato pancakes, and a corned beef special (basically a reuben) sandwich. I liked it all and so did she! She loved the soup and the applesauce from the potato pancakes. I was also a fan of all the food. The sandwich was big and packed with meat (although I could've enjoyed a little more sauce and slaw), the potato pancakes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the matza ball soup was tasty. The waiter was also very friendly and very chatty (perhaps a little too much so!) The selection is also gigantic as another reviewer mentioned. My only gripes are that it took forever to pay at the single register, and that as good as the food was, it was somewhat unremarkable. However, that does not stop Ben and Irvs from getting my recommendation!

I have been in Ben & Irv's a couple of times, and its a pretty good deli type place. Normally when I got eggs when I was there, which were fairly decent. Eggs are pretty hard to screw up, but they didn't seem to have anything special to them. The bagel I got with it didn't taste too fresh either. If I want to go to a place to get eggs, I will just stick to a diner instead.

Well in town for a few days and this was the start to eating my way around the area. I have to say...I wish more places were like this! The waitresses were most helpful. Ben and Irv's is the place to go if you're looking for standard but well-prepared and delicious deli fare. It tends to get crowded during the lunch and dinner hours, but they do have a take-out options and a deli counter up front featuring deli meats, cheeses, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, and other various selections. The food also takes a while to come out, but in the end it's all worth it.

Have only been to B&I's for breakfast, but we love it and make it a regular spot on weekends. Go early, as there is usually wait if you get their after 10:00 a.m. or so. Atmosphere is very diner-like, as is the service, but all in all, it's dependable, Good coffee, and love the "big breakfast" specials they do weekdays and weekends. I love me some Ben and Irv's. I have been going here for years. We often would meet one of my aunts there for breakfast every other month or so. Now I have a best friend who I meet there for breakfast every other month or so also. It's tradition! I can't speak as much for other meals, but I love their breakfasts. I often try different things when I am there. The omelets are great, I love their breakfast wraps, and just eggs, toast and home fries are also good! Pancakes are yummy (especially with chocolate chips). I also enjoy their waffles. And their challah french toast rocks!

I've taken my grandmother here for breakfast every time I'm in town. We get a nice Jewish plate of smoked fish, with bagels and all the accouterments. Arlene has been our server for years and she's a hoot! I have never eaten lunch here but I can tell you the kippered salmon and the belly lox are the best I have ever had. Their fish comes from Acme in Brooklyn and it's fresh and tasty.

Always reliable Jewish deli. They have a huge menu - ranging from breakfast foods to deli to hot sandwiches and entrees to desserts and bakes goods. Definitely a great place for breakfasts and early bird dinners, though it can get really crowded and sometimes there is a long line. They have delicious low fat muffins, available at the deli counter, that are quite pricey, but worth it in my opinion. I always grab a few on my way out.

The tables too closed together, service people act frantic and bumps into you while you are sipping your coffee... I ordered corn beef sandwich and I have tasted better ones elsewhere. Too much fat in it as I asked for lean ones. I guess they do not really care for your specific instructions on how you want your food to be made. I had asked in a very clear way that I want LEAN corn beef and cut away the fat. Nope... they served me fatty side of corn beef.... Left with a spilled coffee on my shirt and upset stomach.... No thanks!

I could have sworn I already wrote a review for this place... but I guess it's typical of Ben & Irv's that it slipped my mind! My family has been going here for years for Saturday morning brunch, and still go occasionally when I am back in the suburbs. I actually liked it better before they remodeled; before, it had a diner charm, now it merely looks like it's trying to be classier than it is. The waitresses, though, haven't changed. The same cigarette-roughened voice greets you today that greeted you 10 years ago. It's kind of nice; they are efficient. I've never really gotten food other than omelettes here; it seems a bit overpriced from what I can see, but for solid, unmemorable feta cheese omeletets and hash browns in the suburbs that will get you seated quickly even with long lines, Ben & Irv's can't be beat. They also have the nostalgia factor going on. Ah, Ben & Irv's.
